Summary
Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) was only a teenager whenhorrorfans first became invested in theScreamfranchise, and she likely could never have predicted the scary turn her life would take.Sidney’s history as an intelligent final girlis one reason why I’m hopeful that her return inScream 7will be satisfying.
After appearing in the first fourScreammovies, Campbell came back forScream (2022),and then didn’t appear inScream 6because of a salary dispute. Fans were more than a little excited to hear that Campbell would come back forScream 7, and I was also thrilled. I agree withParker Posey’s idea for a realStabmovie, andI also love this fan suggestion about Sidney Prescott’s storyline inScream 7. While aStabfilm might not ever happen, this fan’s idea seems realistic.
A Fan Wants Sidney Prescott To Have A Good Friend In Scream 7
Redditor @ThadGoldstonposted that theythink Sidney Prescott needs a close friend inScream 7and I think it’s a great idea. They wrote:
“I would love to see Sydney with a new best friend. We’ve had Tatum & Hallie, both phenomenal. But I’m not counting her assistant in Scream 4 as a best friend. And it was cool to see her side by side with Gale in 5 but it didn’t come until the third act.”
I’m excited to see Sidney’s life with herhusband Mark Evans (Joel McHale), although I’m still wondering how Scream 7 will explainSidney not being married to Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey)after all. ButI agree that Sidney needs a good pal who she relies on and leans on. For one thing, she has been through more than most people, and she needs a support system. For another, she needs to have some fun. And, finally,Scream 7could suggest that Sidney’s best friend is Ghostface, which would add some drama to her already full and, at times, frightening life.
While some fans say that Sidney and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) are friends, I’m not sure they would classify each other in that way.Sidney and Gale are both final girls who have been through trauma, but their relationship got off on the wrong foot. Sidney thinks Gale is a bit too mean and ambitious at times, and Gale sometimes seems envious of the attention that Sidney gets. That’s not the best foundation for a real, true, and genuine friendship. I’d love forGale to have a meaningful storyline inScream 7,and I want her and Sidney to get along. But if they’re not best friends, that’s okay.
I also think that since there areso many new cast members inScream 7, it would only make sense for one of them to be close to Sidney. For example,Ethan Embry could play Sidney’s coworker or daughter’s teacher, but the talented actor could also play one of her friends.
Since Sidney is older now with a family, her character arc needs to explore common and relatable problems, like parenthood, balancing life and work, and finding time for herself. It would be fascinating to see Sidney having some meaningful conversations with a good friend, even if it was just in one scene. This would balance out the gory Ghostface scenes.
Which Characters Have Been Sidney Prescott’s Friends In The Scream Franchise?
As the fan pointed out on Reddit,Sidney has had two good friends in theScreamfranchise. InScream,Sidneyisclose to her classmate Tatum Riley (Rose McGowan), who is also Dewey Riley’s (David Arquette) younger sister. Then, inScream 2, Sidney isgood friends with hercollege roommate Hallie McDaniel (Elise Neal). In both cases, Sidney has found someone who she trusts, and she can have fun with them while also talking about her fears surrounding Ghostface.
WhileKevin Williamson regretted killing off Randy Meeks(Jamie Kennedy) inScream 2, I’m still sad that Tatum and Hallie died because they are two of my favorite characters in the slasher franchise.Tatum and Hallie are both intelligent charactersbut, sadly, neither one makes it. While there aresome gory deaths inScream 6,nothing compares to Tatum getting stuck while trying to sneak through a garage door opening inScreamand Ghostface killing her. Ghostface kills Hallie when she and Sidney are attempting to get away from them on their college campus.
Tatum and Hallie are also greatScreamcharacters sincethey have such clever dialogue. One of the best scenes inScream 2is when Sidney tells Hallie she wants to see the killer and is going to run over instead of escaping. Hallie says “No, no, Sid!” and Sidney says:
“I’m going back!”
Hallie replies:
“Stupid people go back! Smart people run! We’re smart people…”
I hope that Sidney has at least one good friend inScream 7and will be thinking about each new character beforethe movie arrives in theaters in February 2026.
