Summary

Bosch: Legacyis back on television screens on July 19, 2025, but it’ll be the last time fans get to see Harry Bosch’s solo stories after Amazon canceled the show ahead of its third season. The creative team aren’t done withBosch: Legacy, and they had plans for another season before it was axed. The author of the books,Michael Connelly, sold the rights to Harry Bosch to Amazon back in 2014, and while it has been a largely fruitful relationship, things have turned sour due to the cancelation.

Titus Welliver wants to keep playing Harry Bosch, and he will do so in a reduced role in theBallardspin-off series. However,Connelly and Welliverclearly want to continue working together, sowhat is stopping Amazon handing the rights back to Michael Connelly and allowing him to take Harry Bosch to Netflix?Alternatively, Bosch could link up with The Lincoln Lawyer, or appear on another streamer? It’s very complicated due to the Ballard spin-off, and Connelly’s continued working relationship with Amazon, but there is a way around it.

Like all great collaborations, there comes a point when both parties have a difference of opinion, and in normal circumstances they go their separate ways after striking a deal. Unfortunately,Michael Connelly is tied to Amazon, as they own the rights to the television iteration ofHarry Bosch, and they intend to use the character sparingly intheBallardspin-off.This is the stumbling block when it comes toBosch: Legacybeing picked up by another streaming service or network. The Lincoln Lawyerhas just been renewed for a fourth season on Netflix, and it would be great to seeBosch: Legacycrossoverwith that show, as they exist in the same universe inMichael Connelly’s book series.

Amazon wants to cling onto Harry Bosch as he can bridge the gap betweenBosch: LegacyandBallard, and act as a promotional tool for the latter show.Amazon’s cancelation ofBosch: Legacywas planned a long time ago, so why didn’t they choose to proceed with a joint Bosch/Ballard show, as this is how the characters function in Michael Connelly’s book series.Amazon doesn’t want to honor Connelly’s vision for Harry Bosch and Renee Ballard, so they should let the cold case investigator do her own thing in the upcoming spin-off series, and release Harry Bosch from his leashso he can continue his solo journey elsewhere.

Amazon Won’t Hand The Rights Back To Michael Connelly But There Is A Compromise That Could Be Reached

If Marvel Studios and Disney could share Spider-Man, surelyAmazon could share Harry Bosch with Netflixor another streamer. Harry Bosch could pop up in Ballard, while continuing his solo cases inBosch: Legacyon a different platform. The fans want more Harry Bosch, and they have spoken viathe SaveBosch: Legacypetitionto keep him around. The fans are calling for either one more season to wrap up the story or afeature-lengthBosch: Legacymovie.

If Amazon agreed to let the ex LAPD detective go to Netflix, he could solve cases withThe Lincoln LawyerAND continue his own story in many more seasons ofBosch: Legacy.Let’s be realistic, Amazon won’t do any of this, despite the originalBoschseries helping to put them on the streaming map over a decade ago. There is no loyalty in Hollywood, and Amazon just wants to have their cake and eat it. Amazon doesn’t want to share Harry Bosch with anyone else, as they are hell-bent on stifling and disrespecting the iconic character withguest spots in theBallardspin-off.
