Summary
Atomfalllead designer Ben Fisher has revealed that the game is trying some “experimental stuff” that could make a big impact on the in-game world. As a newcomer to the post-apocalyptic genre,Atomfallis looking to make an impression on gamers, and this could be just the way to do it.
Atomfallwas first revealed in June 2024as the new IP fromSniper Elitedeveloper Rebellion. Its post-apocalyptic aesthetic instantly caught the eye, drawing swift comparisons to Bethesda’sFalloutseries, albeit with a distinctly British vibe. Rebellion has slowly revealed new details about its upcoming title, building up the hype in anticipation of its Jul 01, 2025, release date. After largely being committed to theSniper Eliteseries for a while now, it will be interesting to see how Rebellion tackles another new IP of its own.
Speaking toVideoGamer,Atomfalllead designer Ben Fisher explored the freedom that comes with creating a new IP, explaining, “There’s some experimental stuff you wouldn’t try somewhere else because you can’t guarantee a result… There’s some bonkers in Atomfall. There’s events the player can trigger or completely miss that can have a huge influence on enemy population in the game world, and stuff like that… It might work, it might not… I’m looking forward to finding out.” Fisher’s comments are an interesting glimpse intowhat players can expect fromAtomfall.
Atomfall Experimental Events Can Change The In-Game World
It’s not clear exactly howAtomfall’s gameplaywill be affected by these “experimental” events, although it may change the game’s difficulty. Fisher had some things to say about the difficulty ofAtomfall, too, saying, “The game is its best experience when it puts you on edge… It’s a high-intensity experience but then rewarding for it because you put in that effort and then succeed. So I’m hoping to do that and feel that.” It’s almost refreshing to hear a game developer admit that its choices are bold enough that they’re not they’ll work - it suggestsAtomfallwill be a truly unique experience, for better or worse.

The good news is thatAtomfallwill be on Xbox Game Pass on day one, which will allow gamers to try out the title and check out some of that “experimental stuff” and see how well it works in-game.
