MAPPA and WIT Credited in DB Daima

Thecredits of the final episode ofDragon Ball Daimainclude the names of two studios known for creating stunning animation: MAPPA and WIT. It caught the attention of fans andDragon Ball-focused profiles on social media:

WIT Studio & MAPPA are featured in the final credits of Dragon Ball Daima.

Both studios arecredited for backgrounds or scenery(背景). Outsourcing parts of the production is a common practice in the anime industry, so studios generally work alongside each other when producing an anime. It is rare for an anime to be fully produced in-house — if that ever happens. It doesn’t mean that these studios have played any major role in the production, but it is nice to see them credited in the series.

While outsourcing might not be a problem in itself, when a production relies too much on outsourced work, it usually means that things are not going well — which doesn’t seem to be the case withDaima. In addition, animators have complained that project terms and contractsare sometimes not clear. As this is not allowed by Japanese law, the government is currently investigating these claims.

The Future of Dragon Ball

Daima’sfinale left room for a sequel, but nothing more concrete has been announced. Fans are also expecting anew season ofDragon Ball Superto be confirmed soon, as there is a lot of content to be adapted from the manga.

With the 40th anniversary of the franchise likely to be celebrated throughout the year, a new series may indeed be announced soon — though not necessarily the one fans are expecting.
