Summary
Avowedplayers can choose one of three classes to go whole hog into or branch out with a multiclass build. TheWizard is one of the classes whose functionality should be clear from the name.
The more players level up, the more spells they can unlock with ability points inAvowed. In the Wizard’s level one slots, there are seven active spells and one passive ability: Armored Essence. Armored Essence will lessen stamina drain on certain armor types, so it is useful for Wizard builds but not as fun to discuss compared to these spells. It is time to rank their usefulness and power.
Use More Spells With The Help Of An Imaginary Rod
Parasitic Staff will create an evil-looking red staff for melee attacks. It’s a rare spell in the game as the only other big conjuring example is when players can create a magical swordto assassinate enemiesfrom the shadows. Parasitic Staff is not meant to devastate enemies though as it’s more like a supportive spell. Enemies hit with this temporary staff will restore Essence to the player used to cast more powerful spells. Players could drink a potion to restore Essence too but hitting enemies with sticks can be more fun.
6Arcane Veil
Reduce Damage And Spell Casting Can’t Be Interrupted
Arcane Veil is another supportive spell but this one won’t conjure any weapons. Instead, a golden aura will engulf players, lessening damage from surrounding enemies. It’s a basic defensive spellfor an RPGwith one bonus.
Enemies cannot stop spells from being cast which is quite easy without Arcane Veil evoked. It can get frustrating when spells are interrupted in the middle of a wave of enemies which is why Arcane Veil is good to have around.
5Minor Missiles
A Revamped D&D Classic
Magic Missile will often be the first spella magical class inDungeons & Dragonscan learn. To be a bit different, Minor Missiles is the first spell a Wizard can learn inAvowed. With it, players will launch a volley of purple orbs at enemies. Up close, this attack can be as effective as a shotgun in other games. From a distance, these orbs can falter and dissipate before reaching their target. There is a time and place for Minor Missiles and after some of these other spells are learned, that place in the player’s spell roster will lessen.
4Corrosive Siphon
Poison Enemies With A Stream Of Gas
Corrosive Siphon will create a stream of green gaseous poison to erupt from the player’s hand. The excessive force will poison enemies over time and that’s the reason to use this spell. The initial damage isn’t that great but poison types rarely are in an RPG. Players should use this spell at the start of a combat scenario to damage everyone around so that they die off quickly even if players don’t directly attack them. It’s good against bosses too although some bosses get better immunity as the game progresses.
3Chill Blades
Shoot Icy Darts At Foes
Anyone hoping Chill Blades would conjure two ice-based blades to appear on the player’s arms akin to the assassin gauntlets inAssassin’s Creedwill be disappointed inAvowed. Instead, Chill Blades will launch a volley of icicles at enemies. They’re more numerous than the purple orbs from the Minor Missiles spell. They’re faster and launch further too, great for long-distance or short-distance kills. Also, like all ice-based spells inAvowed, there is a chance enemies can freezewhich also applies to water or certain steel grates.
2Jolting Touch
Chain Lightning Better Than Emperor Palpatine
Jolting Touch is not as flashy asEmperor Palpatine’s Force Lightning in theStar Warsseriesbut it is still powerful inAvowed. Once it hits one enemy, it can chain together with others around. The chain distance is not large but players can increase the damage with water.
Any lightning-based spell can be used to electrocute water and any enemy or ally who steps inside will be damaged. It’s another clever wayAvoweduses its elemental physics well to elevate it above other magic systems.
1Fan Of Flames
Fist Of The Dragon
The best level one Wizard spell is easily the Fan of Flames. Like Corrosive Siphon, this will turn the player’s hand into a stream of magic but this one is fire-based. It can burn enemies, causing damage over time and it stings a bit more than Corrosive Siphon. The coolest part of this spell is upgrading it to use two streams of fire at once, which will devastate any battlefield. The only thing missing from this double dose ofdragon-like fire breathis some marshmallows for roasting.
