InAvowed, Healing is essential if you want to keep adventuring without returning to camp. There are a variety of Health Restoration sources inAvowed, some which areintroduced right at the start of the game, and some that take a little bit of digging to unlock later on (like Healing Abilities).
This guide explains how to Heal inAvowed, including how to find and equip Health Potions, the best Foods for restoring Health, and recommended Itemsand Abilities to slot to restore Health. This guide also explains a few ways you may increase Max HP inAvowed, both permanently and temporarily.
How To Use Health Potions
The main way to heal inAvowed, and the first method players are introduced to, is the Health Potion. The Health Potion is unique in that it doesn’t restore flat Health, it restores 70% of your Maximum Health. Also, the Health you restore from a Health Potion counts as immediate HP that will be reduced if you are hit in the middle of healing.
To get more Health Potions, purchase Health Potions from Apothecary vendors (and some other general vendors) and look for Health Potions out in the world. Look for a glowing red flask amongst ground loot or inside of breakable boxes.
To use a Health Potion, PC players can simply press the Z key, and rebind the Healing input as necessary. For example, to extra buttons on the mouse for easier access. Console players, on the other hand, must pull up the Ability Radial menu with the left shoulder button (LB) and then select the Health Potion.
Prepared Food & Ingredients Can Both Heal
After youmake camp for the first time, walk over to Kai and look at the cooking pot above the fire. Most ingredients you find, and even some materials, can be cooked into Prepared Food items which can provide a number of buffs – and restore resources like Health. Anything that restores Health will have a small red heart next to its name in the item list.
When you eat a Food item, your Health will regenerate rapidly out of combat, but very slowly while in combat. Additionally, it doesn’t work like Temp HP – if you get hit by a strong attack that reduces you below 0 HP, your recovering Health won’t offset the damage.
The ingredients you collect to create Prepared Foods can also be consumed directly for smaller Health regeneration amounts, but it’s almost always better to cook something out of your ingredients.
Some great Health restoration Foods inAvowedyou can cook early on include:
Healing Skills & Abilities That Restore Health
In theFighter and Ranger Ability TreesinAvowed, skills that directly and indirectly restore Health can be acquired and slotted. If you are having a particularly tough time surviving inAvowedand need to find more ways to Heal, consider speccing into any of these abilities:
Godlike Abilities andCompanions can give you more ways to Heal, too. The firstGodlike Abilitymost players earn is theDream Touch ability, which revives and heals all nearby allies for a small amount. This can turn the tide in combat, bringing dead allies back to life. In fact, there are several Godlike abilities that grant Health Restoration inAvowedbut you can only earn Godlike abilities through certain narrative events and quests, not with skill points.
Giatta is a healing-focused companion, so bringing her along will grant several ways to increase Healing inAvowed. She can cast a Barrier over the party, giving temporary HP, she can cast Purification to outright heal 25% of max HP, and she can heal allies passively with her normal attacks. It’s worth unlocking Giatta as fast as possible for her multiple support benefits, not just for Healing.
How To Increase Max Health In Avowed
To increase Max Health,Avowedplayershave a few options. The easiest way to increase HP inAvowedis to increase your Constitution stat. Every point in Constitution grants 5% Max Health and 6% Poison and Bleed Resistance. This is a vital stat for melee playstyles as you will need extra Health from any source possible to survive in group combat.
TheAvowedBackgroundswith the highest Constitution stat are the War Hero and Vanguard, which both start with a 2 in Constitution for a 10% bonus to Max Health.
If you only need more Health for one fight, consider cooking a consumable Prepared Food item that will grant a Max Health buff. For example, Pargrum Ale will grant +20% Max Health temporarily, and only requires one Grain, one Vegetable, and any Rotten ingredient.
The best way to permanently get more Max Health inAvowedis through the Ability Trees, where there are a lot of powerful buffs to Max HP. Fighters can pick up the Toughness Ability which simply increases Max Health by 20%/35%/45%. The Godlike Ability Remembrance of Kishamal will boost Max Health by 10% passively, and Giatta can boost your Max Health with certain companion abilities too.
