One of the most intriguing aspects about many ofAvowed’s side quests is the fact that they can be initiated in a variety of ways. One of the best examples of this is the ‘Memory of the Deep’ quest found in theEmerald Stair. It is possible to complete this quest without realizing that there are multiple outcomes, and a tricky choice that can have rather unfortunate consequences. In this guide, we’ll show you how to complete ‘Memory of the Deep,’ and help you decidewhat to do with theMysterious MeteoriteinAvowed.
How to Start Memory of the Deep in Avowed
Josep’s Farm:
There are several ways to start “Memory of the Deep” inAvowed. The first method is to locateJosep Abaccioin the southeastern region of Emerald Stair. Josep is an animancer farmer who lives among the other farmers of the region. To find Josep, look for theCoastal Farmslabel on the map, on the southeastern side ofMaxim’s Claim.
Josep’s farm is just below the F in the Coastal Farms wording on the map. You’ll see the blue exclamation mark that tells you there is a side-quest found in the area. Josep will tell you that the revenants he uses for farming have gone missing. He tasks you with figuring out where they are going, and what is causing the issue.
Lake Lacuna:
The next location you’ll need to visit isLake Lacuna, which is found northwest ofFior mes Iverno. This is where things get interesting, because it is possible to completely bypass Josep and start"Memory of the Deep"by simply visiting the lake. Some players may not realize Josep is involved in this quest at all.
If you start “Memory of the Deep” by visiting Lake Lacuna only, make sure to visit Josep at his farm. This will allow you to choose between two outcomes and two possible rewards.
How to Get the Mysterious Meteorite in Avowed
Meeting the Giftbearer:
When you arrive at Lake Lacuna, you’ll be given theoptional taskofspeaking to the stranger standing on the docks. This stranger is actually a priest of Ondra called the Giftbearer. He will give you a bit more information on why revenants are drawn to the lake.
After speaking to the Giftbearer, dive into the center of the lake and swim to the bottom. There, you’ll find theMysterious Meteorite, which is also called themoon rockin some dialogue. After you collect the moon rock, exit the lake. If you didn’t speak to the Giftbearer before diving in the lake, you’ll have another chance to learn his intentions by reading the note he left at the end of the dock.
The Giftbearer will reveal that he too wants the Mysterious Meteorite. Now, you’ll have to decide whether you should give it to Josep or the Giftbearer.
Give the Moon Rock to Josep or Giftbearer – Avowed
Give the Mysterious Meteorite to Josep:
If you decide to give the Mysterious Meteorite to Josep, you will get an immediate reward, but things will end somewhat tragically. It becomes clear after visiting Lake Lacuna that the Mysterious Meteorite is causing the revenants to react violently. Even after explaining this to Josep, he still wants to try to use the space rock to keep his revenants in line.
Giving the Mysterious Meteorite to Josep inAvowedwill get you the following reward:
If you give Josep the meteorite, then return to his farm after resting, you’ll find that Josep has been killed by his revenants.
Give the Mysterious Meteorite to the Giftbearer:
If you decide to give the meteorite to the Giftbearer, you’ll want to locate him at the docks to the southwest of Josep’s farm. The Giftbearer reveals that he plans to take the Mysterious Meteorite away from the Living Lands, possibly dropping it into the ocean far away from any inhabited areas. If you agree and give him the rock, it will seem that the only reward you receive is the 550 gold.
However, if you rest and return to the docks, you’ll find theStatuette of Lament, a trinket that allows you to stay underwater twice as long.
Mysterious Meteroite Best Choice:
In terms of pure practicality, the trinket you get from Josep seems to be the best possible reward. While the ability to stay underwater longer is handy, there has not been a time when we truly felt that it was necessary. However, adding a fourth fighter to your party can be extremely valuable, even if it is temporary.
However, if your goal is to keep everyone alive, then giving the meteorite to the Giftbearer is the best option. While the reward is 100% necessary, it is nice to have it.
