Summary

Avowedis finally available, and Obsidian has already released a sizable update for the fantasy action RPG. Gameplay that reminded players ofSkyrimand a universe that acts as a spiritual successor toBaldur’s Gatemade the game one of the most hyped releases of 2025, and so far, it’s largely held up to expectations. Still, no title is ever perfect at launch, soAvowedis introducing some major fixes upfront while detailing longer-term plans.

Less than a day after its release,Avowedbecame the top-selling game on Steamin the US and saw an influx of early modding activity. Being a day-one Game Pass title helped it see a similarly impressive launch on Xbox, but quick sales and a strong first impression don’t mean work on the title is finished. As with any new game, there were some noticeable bugs and room for improvement, but the latest patch should help with some of these issues.

Obsidian released Patch 1.2.2 on February 18, the same dayAvowedbecame available on Xbox and PC. The update includes a few fixes related to early feedback from players, including adjustments to how penalties and bonuses work in relation to equipment tiers and making it so users can’t sell upgrade materials to merchants.Avowed’s merchants are one of its standout features, but being able to sell upgrade resources to them led to inadvertent difficulty spikes, as players could make it harder on themselves to upgrade equipment. Obsidian says it has a different long-term alternative in mind for these interactions, but for now, preventing them entirely will help manage the issue.

The game’s NPCs also see several fixes and improvements in the patch. Comments from companions about players' armor and weapons will be less common going forward, and companions will start off with more health and get more of it back when revived in combat. WhileAvowed’s combat far exceeds that of theElder Scrollsseries, these tweaks should make it more approachable and improve companions' involvement in it. The patch notes also mention that some NPCs are disappearing, and while there’s no long-term fix yet, Obsidian says saving and re-loading the game should resolve it.

Patch 1.2.2 addresses several graphical, audio, and gameplay bugs, too. Early access users hadpraisedAvowedfor its visuals and performance, but some elements still experienced slipping or disappearing issues. The latest update resolves many of these so players can enjoy the game to its fullest. All told, it’s a massive patch, totaling around 2.5GB, but Obsidian still hopes to bring additional improvements in the future.
