Summary
DespiteEnter The Gungeonreleasing in 2016, the near-infinite replayability of the roguelite shooter means that many fans still revisit the game today. Even for new players, there are plenty of reasons to go back and enjoyEnter The Gungeonfor the first time, as it certainly has a unique identity even with the large number ofindie roguelikesin the current gaming scene.
There are a huge number of guns to play with inEnter The Gungeon. The original release had hundreds of unlockable weapons, and subsequent updates have added even more variety. It’s not straightforward to define the best guns, either, as many guns have utilities beyond damage. There’s also quality to take into account, as this can affect what other guns are likely to drop in a run. So, for utility or for pure power, these are some of the best guns inEnter The Gungeon.
12Old Goldie
Super Shotgun
Old Goldie is an A-quality shotgun with more power than a regular boom stick, but with a slightlyirregular spread pattern. It’s a good weapon for room clearing and the added “+1 coolness” gives players faster active item cooldowns and increased luck.
11Gungine
Faster Move Speed
The Gungine doesn’t do a lot of damage per shot, but makes up for it with a huge clip and a fast automatic rate of fire. The main advantage of this weapon is the increased movement speed that players get while holding it, which increases boththe speed at which players can get through a runand the ease of dodging bullets while they do it.
10Balloon Gun
Not A Toy
The Balloon Gun is a very solid weapon with decent damage for a semi-automatic rifle. Its C-quality means it won’t hurt the player’s chances of finding better weaponslater in the run, too. The weapon fires homing mini-tornados, so it’s easy to use for room clearing, and grants the player flight while held. It’s one that players will need to get used to though, as the Balloon Gun loses all the ammo in its clip if the player is hit while using it.
9AKEY-47
Unlimited Keys
The AK-47 is already a solid automatic weapon inEnter The Gungeon, and the AKEY-47 is even better. It has all the same stats as the AK, but also acts as an infinite use key. Shoot a locked door or chest with this gun, and it will open. Players need to unlock the shortcut to the Forge before they can access this weapon in a run.
8WindGunner
Infinite Ammo
The Windgunner is an obscenely powerful weapon, but accessing it can be a little tricky. Players first need to find the “Sprun” item, a floating orb that follows them around. When this item is picked up, it picks a random trigger condition. When the trigger is satisfied, the player is granted the Windgunner. The trigger can be a number of different things: taking enough heart damage, getting poisoned, etc., but the player doesn’t know the condition until it happens. Mechanically, it’s a clever reference to the fantasy franchise it’s paying homage to, but players can discover that themselves when theyfind a friendly Sprun.
7Winchester Rifle
Old Reliable
The Winchester Rifle is a reliable, if unspectacular, weapon. The default D-quality means that this is a weapon players might hope to find on the first floor, to carry them through until something better comes along — but it’s the best weapon players could hope for, for that purpose. It works well for players who prefer solid damage from a single shot over automatic or spread fire.
6Gunther
Evolving Power
It has apretty hefty unlock requirement, but Gunther is one of the best weapons in the game once players have access to it. This weapon evolves as players clear enough rooms with it, getting progressively stronger and gaining bullet properties. Projectiles first pierce, then bounce, then seek out enemies, also getting more damage with each stage. To unlock it, players need to beat High Dragun, the final boss, with the Sorceress’s Blessing active. (This means that players have to have already beaten Dragun at least once to unlock the NPC.)
5Particulator
Homing Bullets
The Particulator is an excellentroom-clearing weapon. Its homing bullets seek out enemies and do a lot of damage. The larger projectile does most of the damage (30), with the smaller projectiles adding 7 additional damage per hit. Players can clear a room with a couple of shots, and the long reload time can be skipped with the drop-reload (drop a weapon and pick it up to reload automatically) method if players really want to maximize damage.
4BSG
Legally Distinct BFG
Doomplayers will immediately recognize this weapon and will already have a good idea of how it functions. The BSG charges up to fire a powerful, screen-clearing projectile that deals heavy damage to all nearby enemies. It’sa rare weapon, but the power of its single shot is hard to beat.
3Black Hole Gun
Strong Attraction
The Black Hole Gun doesn’t do a lot of damage quickly, but its shots pull enemies and their bullets into the singularity, making finishing them while they can’t fight back incredibly easy. To access this weapon, players first have to purchase it from Ox & Cadence’s store in the Breach for 20 Hegemony credits.
