Summary
Commonly, isekai shows portray one or two characters getting transported to another world. However, when this happen to an entire class, it serves as an overallunique dynamic to the Isekai genre. These anime often focus on the interactions between classmates in an unfamiliar setting and how they can make or break individuals.
The protagonists often face challenges, the most common being betrayals, that force them to grow stronger both in strength and mind, sometimes changing their personality as a whole. From overcoming abandonment by either their summoner or their classmates to defying the odds of death, various anime display the experiences of whole classes as they journey through their fantasy worlds.
Summoned To Another World For A Second Time
A unique take on the Isekai genre, this anime takes the crown for being one of the few completed Isekai anime to exist. The protagonist of the story got summoned to another world with his classmates, but who would have guessed this was not his first Isekai rodeo?
His relationship with his classmates does not appear to be strong, as he’s not really involved with them as the series progresses. Kouma, one of the few classmates shown, is on a journey to find the rest of them, with the help of Tōma, the antagonist of the story. However, it is unclear whether they eventually found the others or not.
My Instant Death Ability is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me!
When it comes to having good classmates, Yogiri Takatou missed the mark. After he and his classmates on the bus were summoned by a sage named Sion to become sages in another world, Sion and most of the others abandoned Yogiri and another classmate.
Sion had bestowed most of them with abilities called Gifts, with a few, such as Yogiri and Tomochika, being exempt from this Gift. Not only that, but they were also left behind as bait for a powerful dragon. However, the dragon wasno match for Yogiri’s Instant Death ability, an ability not from Sion that helped him and his new companion through this new world.
This anime takes a unique approach to transportation to a different world. In this case, the students and the school building itself were all transported to a different dimension. This dimension had its own rules that the students had to follow in order to survive.
Nagara and some of his classmates were fortunate enough to possess supernatural abilities, while others did not, which caused divisions among them. The entire anime was focused on them as a class, with in-fighting and arguments all while trying to find a way out of the multiple dimensions they kept jumping through to get home.
Loner Life in Another World
Haruka never really conversed much with his classmates, often preferring to be alonedoing his own thing. He carried this lifestyle over to the fantasy world he and his classmates were summoned to, avoiding them when necessary and only interacting if he must. This personality is arguably one of the reasons for his abilities, as he tried to sneak off on his own when he saw the magic summoning circle, ending up as the last to pick abilities.
That being said, he did not have a negative relationship with his classmates. The class itself consisted of students the school deemed special cases, from delinquents to nerds. Haruka had nicknames for them, names that some of them adopted.
Before their transportation to another world, Seiichi Hiiragi’s classmates always treated him badly, bullying him because of his appearance. Even when the time came to be transported to the fantasy world, his classmates left him out of the loop with everyone forming groups and not allowing him to join.
Thankfully, he was still transported, just to an entirely different location. This was where he found the Fruit of Evolution that changed his life, especially his appearance and his abilities. Despite this, he was still kind to his classmates, returning them and his teachers back to Earth when he had the ability to do so.
So I’m A Spider, So What?
Unlike the regular classmate betrayal trope where the protagonists come back stronger and seek revenge, the classmates in this anime did not have much to do with the protagonist’s fate. After being transported to another world, some of them were still humans, and some switched to races like Demons and Elves, whilethe protagonist Kumoko ended up as the weakest spider.
Their lives progressed separately, with Kumoko’s supposedly being the most treacherous as she had to constantly fight her way through the dungeon until she became strong enough. She only came across one of her classmates by chance, nearly devouring her, but decided against it, a decision she later came to be thankful for.
From the title alone, one can tell how the progression of this series went. While Touka Mimori’s classmates were not the main cause, they did have a major hand in his character development. He and his classmates were summoned to a fantasy world, and he ended up having an ability with a low success rate.
The goddess that summoned them, Vicious, cast him aside to the ruins of disposalbecause of this, and most of his classmates supported this decision. Apart from three or so of his classmates that didn’t help make this decision, the rest had targets on their backs.
In this anime, the protagonist, Hajime Nagumo, never really fit in with the rest of his classmates, always coming late to school and sleeping through his classes. So when the time came for his whole class to be transported to another world, one would assume it would be his time to shine. It was the other way around.
Heended up with common abilities and weak stats, unlike the rest of his classmates, leading them to ignore him. As if that was not enough, he was still betrayed by one of his classmates, sending him to a dangerous abyss that marked the beginning of a different Hajime Nagumo.
