Captain America: Brave New Worldis the first movie with Sam Wilson becoming Captain America since the Disney+ showThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier. While not a direct continuation of the show’s plot, it still has plenty of callbacks for avid fans.
The overall plot ofCaptain America: Brave New Worldinstead focuses on Thunderbolt Ross becoming the U.S. President and tensions rising between him and Sam as the envoy of American policy. Someone is behind the scenes manipulating nations, and Sam is determined to get to the bottom of it. It’s a serious movie with plenty of good quotes to take away from it all.
8"We Can Do It Together!”
President Ross
The movie opens with Thunderbolt Ross running for President, with the campaign slogan being “Together.” He mentions how the world is torn apart right now because ofThanos’ wish fulfillment, the Celestial body, and a lack of unified heroes.
It’s a good platform to stand on, and it’s a good message for everyone in the world. Change cannot happen with isolation, and only as a team, together, can humanity sustain itself through harsh conditions and after things fast-forward five months.
7“Let’s Get This Over With, I’ve Got Sh*t To Do.”
Sam Wilson
After the speech, the five-month warp opens with Sam going on a covert mission to get a canister back. This canister is filled with Adamantium, and a secret organization known as the Serpent Society has stolen it. Once Sam gets through the normal grunts, he has to face a colossal soldier calling himself Copperhead.
When Copperhead slams Sam into a bench and asks if he needs a minute, that’s when Sam retorts with this line. It’s a funcallback to Steve Rogers, who, as Captain America, liked to say, “I could do this all day,” and Sam just isn’t built the same.
6“I Can’t Go Back Sam.”
Isaiah Bradley
Isaiah was introduced inThe Falcon and the Winter Soldieras another version of Captain America, who was locked away for his “war crimes.” Sam was able to free Isaiah from jail and reestablish him in society. It seems like Isaiah is doing well on the outside inCaptain America: Brave New Worlduntil he tries to kill President Ross.
He runs away from the White House only to find himself surrounded by police, confused about what he just did. He pleads with Sam that he can’t go back to jail, and it will break the audience’s heart to see Isaiah like this. It’s thanks to Carl Lumbly, the actor, for selling this scene so well.
5“How Many Chances Do You Get To Kill Captain America?”
Sidewinder
Sidewinder is another member ofthe Serpent Society, and he seems like the head honcho. That might be because Giancarlo Esposito is playing him, who always commands the scene whenever he enters. On route to investigate what happened with Isaiah, Sam is ambushed by Sidewinder, who blows up his car.
The two exchange a small duel, and it’s reminiscent of aMetal Gearboss fight. Sidewinder has a revolver like Revolver Ocelot, he says cheesy lines like this one about killing Captain America, and Sam has to defeat him with ingenuity instead of his super suit.
4“I’m Happy To Have This Conversation In Public.”
Sam does his due diligence and eventually finds out that Isaiah did not willingly try to assassinate President Ross. It was a mind-controlling plot orchestrated by Samuel Sterns, one of the characters fromThe Incredible Hulkwho was brought back in a major way inCaptain America: Brave New World. Leader’s big goal was to tarnishPresident Ross’ reputationwith Japan.
That’s when Sam meets up with President Ross again on a battleship in Japan, with tensions high between the two nations. When Sam comes to him with this information, President Ross wants nothing to do with him until Sam rightly tries to air President Ross’ dirty laundry in front of the whole bridge.
3“He Gave You The Shield Because You’re You.”
Bucky Barnes
Captain America: Brave New Worldbrings up a lot of content fromThe Falcon and the Winter Soldierin that Sam is still unsure if Steve gave the right hero the shield. When he is watching his teammate, Joaquin, being worked on by doctors,Bucky appears for a brief cameo.
He reassures Sam with this quote about how Steve knew what he was doing. It’s a similar speech Bucky gave Sam inThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier. As heartfelt as the moment is, the two share a laugh because it’s also a cheesy line.
2“Why Aren’t You Smiling?”
Leader
Samuel Sterns, aka Leader, looks like he has been eating too much broccoli because his head is grotesque. As creepy as he looks and acts inCaptain America: Brave New World, he’s also on top of things. He’s sinister when he wants to be like when Leader turns himself in at the White House.
He smiles and asks this question, knowing full well why Sam isn’t smiling. Something doesn’t feel right, and Sam’s instincts kick into gear when Leader’s plan reveals itself moments later. Thanks to Leader’s medical tampering, he was able to turn President Ross into a Hulk, aka Red Hulk.
1“That Didn’t Work.”
Sam is alone in the final fight against Red Hulk. The Secret Service and military try their best to slow Red Hulk down, but no amount of bullets seems to work. Sam tries diplomacy, but his dice roll seemingly fails when he tries to calm Red Hulk down by bringing up Betty, President Ross’ daughter, and the cherry blossom.
When that doesn’t work, Sam has to give it his all as Captain America. Thanks to the Vibraniumwings gifted to him by Wakanda, Sam can squeak out a victory and turn Red Hulk back into President Ross.
