Warriors: Abyssis different than a lot of roguelikes who only have one or maybe a handful of characters to choose or unlock.Warriors: Abyssboasts over a hundred warriors from across theDynasty WarriorsandSamurai Warriorsfranchises and there will be probably more added along the way.

It’s good tosee Koei Tecmo/Omega Forceso gung-ho aboutWarriors: Abyssespecially since they recently launchedDynasty Warriors: Originswith support plans as well. Of the many heroes players can try in the beginning ofWarriors: Abyss, these are the best. They will be ranked based on power and ease of use.

Guan Yu in Warriors Abyss

8Guan Yu

An Unwavering Tree Of Strength

Guan Yu is a classic character in theDynasty Warriorsfranchise. Anyone who has playedDynasty Warriors: Originsrecently will know how powerful he is. While his moves are less versatile in Warriors: Abyss, he’s still a powerhouse that can take out enemies of every shape and size. He’s a good character to use against bosses too. His one downside is his slow speed but his control of the spear and his massive dragon summoning Musou attack makes Guan Yu a great starter.

7Goemon Ishikawa

Find The Rhythm And Create Fireworks

Goemon Ishikawa is based on the legendary thief in Japanese mythology. He’s also the same character that theKonami-basedGanbare Goemonseriesis based on. This version of Goemon is a bit goofier with a large cannon strapped to his back that fires both cannonballs and fireworks. Like Guan Yu, Goemon is slow by players can build momentum with him for a devastating spin attack. He can take as many hits as he can dish out, making Goemon a goofy rock to rely on.

6Ina

That’s Not How You Use A Bow

Ina isa fair bow maidenbut she doesn’t use a bow like a normal video game character. She instead uses her comically large bow like a sword to attack enemies with melee strikes. Players can build combos to use her bow as normal though, so she’s a mid-range character.

Her Musou will really put her bow to good use as she will summon a rain of arrows to blanket the battlefield. Ina isn’t the strongest character physically but her swift speed gives her an advantage on the battlefield.

5Zhurong

A Strong Amazon With Range

Zhurong is a tall Amazonian-like warrior who looks like she would be slow and physically domineering like Guan Yu. She is foreboding and strong but she’s also incredibly fast on her feet. She uses a triple-point boomerang similar to the weaponYuffie uses inFinal Fantasy 7. Like Ina, Zhurong is a mid-range character as she uses her enlarged shuriken for melee and throw attacks. The only disappointing thing about Zhurong is her Musou attack is just okay.

4Cao Cao

The Icy Lord Who Would Unite China

Cao Cao is one of the most famous characters inDynasty Warriorsand Chinese history. He’s much different compared to his live counterpart as the real version couldn’t use ice powers but the one inWarriors: Abysscan. Cao Cao wields two swords and ice comes into play for various combo attacks and his Musou attack. The coolest part of Cao Cao though is that one of his combo attacks can create a clone of himself to independently attack enemies. Since there isno couch co-oplike most Musou games, it’s good to at least have a clone ally.

3Oichi

Shooting Hoops From Downtown

Oichi has an interesting weapon as she chains four hoops together. It looks like two when players begin to attack, but combos open them up to a string of barrages. It gives her a good reach as a melee character and her laser-based Musou attack has to be seen to be believed.

Her nimble build helps keep Oichi light on her toes but her attacks aren’t as strong to take down bigger enemies like bosses easily. Her speed should help players maneuver around the battlefield and away from enemies though.

2Hanzo Hattori

A Deadly Ninja

Hanzo Hattori is amaster trained in the art of Ninjutsu. He wields two sickles attached to chains which he uses to whip around. As a ninja character, players can expect Hanzo to move like the wind. His best move is a late string combo that can create two extra shadows to follow him around like Cao Cao’s ghosting ability but better. Another good ninja character to check out is Kunoichi who has similar cloning techniques but Hanzo is more well-rounded as far as stats go.

1Huang Gai

I’m On A Boat

Huang Gai is both a hilarious character to witness and a Herculean fighter. His weapon is like no other in the game as he carries a canoe around on his shoulders. He can swing it at enemies or summon waves to dash around the battlefield. It’s one of the most over-the-top characters in the game and, amazingly, he’s ready at the start ofWarriors: Abyss. He may be slow on foot, but his boat dashes help Huang move a bit faster.
