Whether it’sthe divine-like Kokuganin Kawaki’s possession or the all-knowing Senriegan of Eida, theBorutomanga continues to introduce new ocular techniques that far exceed the strength of anything seen before in the series. Considering this long-running trend of Dojutsu supremacy, fans now question whether the Tenseigan will be witnessed in the anime once more, and that too, in the hands of Himawari Uzumaki.
Another Dojutsu of the Otsutsuki,the Tenseigan is an all-powerful visual techniquethat far surpasses the strength of its counterparts. However, the Tenseigan can only be awakened after a strict set of criteria are met, something that only Toneri Otsutsuki was able to achieve so far in theNarutofranchise. However, it seems that Himawari might also possess the necessary requirements to awaken this Dojutsu, deeming her another likely candidate for the Tenseigan. While theBorutomanga is yet to hint towards such a new development, the possibility of Himawari’s awakening a new such a technique still remains plausible considering her heritage and current status in theBoruto: Two Blue Vortexmanga.

Hamura Otsutsuki, Toneri Otsutsuki
The Tenseigan is a divine-like power that was firstwitnessed inThe Last: Naruto the Movie, and that too, in the hands of Toneri Otsutsuki. Based on the events of the movie, it has been implied that the Tenseigan is powerful enough to bring upon cataclysmic events, whether it’s colliding the moon with the earth, or creating animate objects out of inorganic material. The Tenseigan also looks quite similar to the Byakugan in terms of appearance, albeit with a blue iris and a flower-like design inside the pupil.
Despite being an evolution of the Byakugan itself, the Tenseigan is worlds apart from its predecessor. The Tenseigan grants its users godly powers, along with strength that is equivalent tothe Sage Of Six Paths. The dojutsu grants powers similar to the Six Paths Sage Mode, with the user wielding Truth-Seeking Orbs and gaining the ability of flight. This Tenseigan Chakra Mode is on par with Naruto’s Sage Mode Chakra Mode, since the powers granted by it are more or less the same.
With these eyes, Naruto… I will bring an end to your world.
The Tenseigan also wields powers similar tothe Rinnegan’s Deva Path, as gravity repulsion and propulsion seem to be base powers of the Tenseigan. Through this power, Toneri planned to collide the moon with the Earth, a feat that not even the Rinnegan could have ever achieved. Toneri wished to destroy the planet Earth all together, and give birth to a new world with his Tenseigan powers. Since this particular power was never exactly witnessed, it’s rather difficult to attribute such a godly power to the Tenseigan. Since the Tenseigan is an Otsutsuki Dojutsu, it shares many of its abilities with its other Otsutsuki counterparts, though its potency remains much higher.
The Prerequisites For Awakening the Tenseigan
The Tenseigan Can Only Be Manifested After Strict Conditions Are Met
Awakening the Tenseigan has a few prerequisites, and without these necessary requirements, the dojutsu cannot be manifested at all. It has been stated that awakening the Tenseigan requires a pure Byakugan to be mixed with Otsutsuki Chakra, a combination that will result in the Byakugan turning into a Tenseigan. InThe Last: Naruto the Movie, Toneri was able to achieve this feat by stealing Hanabi Hyuga’s Byakugan and implanting it into his own eyes.
With the mix of his own Otsutsuki DNA and Hanabi Hyuga’s Byakugan, the result was the Tenseigan awakeningin Toneri Otsutsuki’s eyes. However, this isn’t the only method of awakening the Tenseigan, as the inverse is also possible. It can be speculated that Otsutsuki chakra mixing with a Byakugan wielder could potentially lead to the Tenseigan manifesting. However, there is a limitation, as a Hyuga Clan member’s own Byakugan is not enough to awaken the Tenseigan, meaning it is necessary for another Hyuga’s Byakugan to be implanted into the eyes to manifest the Tenseigan.
Himawari’s Potential For the Tenseigan
Himawari Fulfills the Necessary Requirements to Awaken the Tenseigan
The notion of Himawari awakening the Tenseigan might seem absurd to many at first, though it certainly holds merit considering her current situation. It’s pertinent to first consider Himawari’s lineage, as both of her parents' ancestors can be traced back to the Otsutsuki. Narutobelongs to the Uzumaki clan, and he is also the reincarnation of Asura. Coupled with the Six Paths Chakra that was granted to him, Naruto clearly possesses Otsutsuki chakra within him in the form of Hagoromo Otsutsuki’s chakra. On the other hand, Hinata’s lineage can be traced back to Hagoromo’s younger brother, Hamura Otsutsuki. In the narrative ofThe Last: Naruto the Movie, Hinata was also deemed the Byakugan Princess by Hamura Otsutsuki himself, meaning she is one of the purest descendants of Hamura.
With the genetic material of both the Sage Of Six Pathsand Hamura Otsutsukiwithin Himawari, she already has the necessary requirements to manifest the Tenseigan. It’s safe to say that Himawari possesses the Otsutsuki Chakra within her from Naruto. Moreover, she has already awakened the Byakugan, and she has also been stated to be the youngest Hyuga to ever manifest the Byakugan in her eyes. With both the Byakugan and Otsutsuki Chakra within her, the possibility of her awakening the Tenseigan is quite high, making it a possibility within the Boruto manga.
While Himawari’s genetic material might deem her a suitable candidate for the Tenseigan, there is still one limitationpertaining to her Bayakugan. Toneri was able to manifest the Tenseigan after implanting another Hyuga Clan member’s Bayakugan into his eyes, meaning the same requirement might hold true for Himawari as well. Still, it’s likely that theBorutomanga might forgo these requirements for Himawari, especially considering she has been shown to be a prodigy and the youngest Hyuga to ever manifest the Byakugan. This gives way to the possibility that her Byakugan is purer than the rest of the Hyuga Clan.
The Implications Of Himawari Awakening the Tenseigan
Himawari’s Tenseigan Would Put Her On the Map As a Primary Protagonist
The current events in theBoruto: Two Blue Vortexmanga have already hinted towards Himawari taking center stage in the narrative. With Kurama manifesting itself within her, along with her brand-new powers, the Boruto manga has already set her up as a rival to Borutoand Kawaki’s strength. With the hype around her character currently, it isn’t far-fetched for Himawari to gain another power-up in the form of the Tenseigan in the near future.
While her current power levels don’t quite match the rest of the manga’s roster of characters, granting her the Tenseigan would allow her to rival the current antagonistic threats in the manga,such as the Shinju. This power-up would certainly set Himawari on par with the rest of Boruto’s characters. While there haven’t been any hints in the manga about such a development to take place, it’s still a likely possibility that it might come to pass down the line.
