Summary
The cancelation ofBosch: Legacywas one thing, but the lies perpetuated by Amazon are something completely different. The chickens are coming home to roost ahead of the release of the final season, as theBosch: Legacycrew are speaking out publicly about the cancelation.Gregory Scott Cummins, who plays Crate inBosch: Legacy, is the latest star to speak out, and he’s raised some legitimate concerns about how Amazon is planning on marketing the upcomingBallardspin-off.
Ballardwas supposed to complementBosch: Legacy, and not replace it. However, Amazon is very keen to appeal to a younger demographic, and they opted to axeBosch: Legacyand use Renee Ballard as the new and younger face of the Bosch-verse. The big problem is this:Michael Connelly’sBallardbookswere about retired cold case investigators, but the spin-off television series has cast much younger actors, so how does this make any sense?
Gregory Scott Cummins Has Spoken Out About The Problems Facing The Ballard Spin-Off
Gregory Scott Cummins is one part of the iconicBoschandBosch: Legacydouble act,Crate and Barrel, and he’s been a mainstay of the Bosch-verse for over ten years. Cummins and Troy Evans' chemistry is spot on, and they’ve remained fan favorites throughout both series. Unfortunately,Amazon is obsessed with appealing to younger audiences, and Crate and Barrel are set to make way for a much younger cast intheBallardspin-off.Cummins recently spoke to fans on theBosch PitFacebook group and revealed some fundamental issues with Amazon’s new strategy:
It remains to be seen if theBallardspin-off will incorporate characters like Crate and Barrel, as Amazon seems to think the only people who watch television are in the 18-25 demographic. The fans want to see their old favorites, and that’s why they’ve responded tothe campaign to saveBosch: Legacy.

BoschandBosch: Legacyhave both been praised for their realistic portrayals of law enforcement, and that is largely down to the help of technical advisors like retired LAPD detective, Mitzi Roberts. However,Gregory Scott Cummins has raised a big problem with theBallardspin-off, and it threatens to derail Michael Connelly’s vision for the cold case unit featured in the series:
The Renee Ballard series is about working cold cases which, in real life, are mostly worked by retired detectives. It’ll be interesting to see if having a younger cast can stay true to life.
Retired detectives like Crate and Barrel would be perfect candidates forRenee Ballard’s cold case unit, but Amazon’s determination to appeal to the younger demographic has created this tunnel vision that defies all logic.Audiences want to see great drama, and they aren’t ageist like Amazon clearly thinks they are.Cummins stated:
It’s a shame that Bosch: Legacy was canceled, but it’s about money and the demographics of the viewers is clearly an additional factor. I hope the show works. It’s clear to me the situation was not caused by Michael Connelly, or the producers of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. The culprit here is Amazon, who are all about selling new memberships to new viewers and making money.
