Summary
TheAvengers: Doomsdaycast is preparing to assemble for the film’s production start, and one formerGuardians of the Galaxyactor seemingly hinted that they may join the team’s roster.
Avengers: Doomsdayis scheduled to begin production in April 2025, with several MCU actors expected to reprise their roles as part of the ensemble cast. However, as of this writing, Robert Downey Jr. is the only officially listedAvengers: Doomsdaycast member. While some actors have beenspotted in London ahead ofAvengers: Doomsdaybeginning production in the city and others have said their involved, the titular’s team roster for the film has largely been a guessing game. However, the MCU may fulfill a post-credits scene promise by including a formerGuardians of the Galaxycast member inAvengers: Doomsday.
Will Chris Pratt Return as the Legendary Star-Lord in Avengers: Doomsday?
During an interview onJimmy Kimmel Liveto promote Pratt’s upcomingNetflix filmThe Electric State, the eponymous host asked the actor if he is reprising his role as Star-Lord in the nextAvengersfilm. Pratt coyly reminded audiences that theGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3post-credits sceneended with an onscreen message saying, “The Legendary Star-Lord will return.“While he did not directly confirm his involvement inAvengers: Doomsday, Pratt noted that, “we will make good on that promise.“Kimmell attempted to clarify if this meant Star-Lord will return in a different movie, but Pratt interrupted by joking saying a Marvel sniper may be watching him and that he will “say no more.”
Christ Pratt Could Have Been Talking About a Different Star-Lord Project
The promise of The Legendary Star-Lord’s return was surprising to some, asGuardians of the Galaxy. Vol. 3was billed as the final installment of Gunn’s trilogy. However, on theGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3audio commentary, Gunn confirmed that he and Pratt have discussed making a Star-Lord movie that focused on his attempts to adapt to life on Earth after being absent since childhood. Of course, with Gunn now heading the DC Universe franchise at DC Studios, he may no longer be able to work on Marvel Studios projects. But Gunn has stated that he doesn’t feel ownership over the Guardians of the Galaxy characters and Pratt said that he’s open to reprising his role as Star-Lord under a different filmmaker if he had Gunn’s blessing.
So, Pratt may have been referring toa Star-Lord solo projectthat has yet to be announced. However, the question was clearly aboutAvengers: Doomsday, and while Pratt didn’t directly confirm his involvement, it would have been easy to debunk his return in that film if he wasn’t in it.
Until Marvel Studios officially announces the full cast, fans must continue guessing as towho will return inAvengers: Doomsday. Some candidates are safer bets than others, and Pratt’s Star-Lord may have jumped into the “likely” column.
Avengers: Doomsdayis scheduled to be released in theaters on May 23, 2025.
