With eachCivilizationgame, Firaxis aims to shake the entire concept up considerably. While the core of it is always centered on letting players make their own mark on history, much of the gameplay is overhauled to create an entirely new experience. WithSid Meier’s Civilization 7,that continues to be the case as the studio has delivered something drastically different from what has come before. Even though many of those changes are great to see, there aresome features fromCivilization 6that did not deserve to be left on the cutting room floor.

Not only didCivilization 6launch with a ton of intriguing gameplay mechanics, but the DLC added to it considerably with features such as Climate Change and unique game modes. As of now,Sid Meier’s Civilization 7does not include mechanics like that. But, through the game’s eventual DLC, it really should. There are so many exciting concepts from throughoutCivilization’s tenure that could shine within this new framework, and hopefully, Firaxis gives them that chance.

Civilization 7 Is Sitting on a Treasure Trove of Features

One ofthe best parts aboutCivilization 6’s DLCwas that it experimented with many features that past titles really had not touched before. For starters, its Gathering Storm DLC added a brand-new Climate Change mechanic. Throughout the game, greenhouse gas emissions could contribute to Climate Change, which would cause further devastation across the map the worse it got. The polar ice caps would melt, tiles would flood, and disasters would become far more frequent and deadlier. Civilizations would be forced to either prevent the incoming disaster or fight within the remnants of their world, making for a fun new twist on the core gameplay.

Along with that,Civilization 6featured numerous other features thatcould shine withinCivilization 7. The game’s World Congress let civilizations vote to enact laws of the land and put penalties on those that did not play nice. Along with that, the governor system helped to give players some nice extra buffs, and they had to grapple with the effects of Golden or Dark Ages. While all of these features would need to be tweaked to fit within the framework ofCivilization 7, they could really help add to the challenge.

If that was not enough,Civilization 6also experimented with a plethora of special game modesthrough its New Frontier Pass. These game modes would put optional new spins on the concept, from joinable Secret Societies and Barbarian clans to powerful heroes from legends and Zombies. Some of them fit within the coreCivilizationexperience better than others, but they all made for fun additions to the formula. And throughCivilization 7, Firaxis could take these ideas even further.

Civilization 7 DLC Needs to Bring the Best Ones Back

Civilization 7may have just launched, but much like previous entries, there are already DLC packs looming on the horizon. As of now, there are multiple civilization packs on the way through theCrossroads of the World Collection. After that, players can also expect the mysterious Right to Rule Collection, which will include even more content for them to sink their teeth into. But, outside all these new civilizations, it is unknown just where Firaxis will take the concept next.

Hopefully, some ofCivilization 7’s future DLC brings back some ofCiv 6’s best features. Many of the game modes and additions such as Climate Change do not deserve to be left behind or forgotten. With some tweaks and changes, they could be great additions to this new experience. Plus. Firaxis could even build upon the unique game modes concept and deliver even more fun twists, makingCivilization 7stronger in the process.
