Prices for some of the earlierOnimushagames are spiking following Capcom’s announcement ofOnimusha: Way of the Swordat the 2024 Game Awards.Onimushaserved as one of Capcom’s prime action franchises through the early-mid 2000s, but has taken a serious backseat for the past twenty-or-so years. The most recent major title in the series to be released was 2006’sOnimusha: Dawn of Dreamson PlayStation 2, but the franchise is seeing a surge of interest with the recent announcement of an all-new game.

Capcom had a big presence at this past Game Awards in December. Alongside its surprising reveal of anOkamisequel was its announcement of an all-newOnimushagame, namedWay of the Sword. The in-engine gameplay trailer, combined with its 2026 release window, made a huge splash and was one of the most talked about reveals of the show. On top of this, Capcom showed up to Sony’s recent State of Play to reveal aremaster of 2002’sOnimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, which is locked in for a May 23 release date on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC.

WithOnimushafanfare bubbling up for the first time since the 2000s, it seems many of the classic titles are getting more expensive onresale sites such as eBay. Notably, the first two titles in the series,Onimusha: WarlordsandOnimusha 2: Samurai’s Destinyseem to be holding out on the price jumps, hovering around $10-$15. It’s the later games in the franchise that are having their prices jacked up, like2004’sOnimusha 3: Demon SiegeandOnimusha: Dawn of Dreams. The former is clocking in at $25-$30, while the latter is soaring close to $60 for used copies.

Prices of Original PS2 Onimusha Games Are Skyrocketing

Luckily, some of these games are still available on Xbox and PlayStation’s digital storefronts at normal prices. For example, the 2018 remaster ofOnimusha: Warlordshas jumped in price from around $15 to $60 or even $80 on resale sites. On Xbox and PlayStation, the sameOnimusharemaster goes for a much more acceptable $20. As for thesoon-to-be-releasedOnimusha 2remaster, it’ll be available for $30 when it launches in May. For now, only the first two mainlineOnimushaentries are or will be available on PlayStation and Xbox, so gamers who are wishing to playOnimusha 3orDawn of Dreamswill have to either shell out the cash for resale copies or remain hopeful for remasters or ports.

With theOnimusha 2: Samurai’s Destinyremaster coming this May and an all-new mainline entry due out next year, there will surely be a ton ofOnimushabuzz over the next several months. Perhaps gamers can expect tolearn : Way of the Swordin June at Summer Game Fest. In the meantime, hopefully the resale prices of the original games will drop as first-time fans look to get into the franchise.
