Neverwinter Nightswas initially released in 2002, with several expansions coming in the years that followed. It was eventually followed up by a sequel,Neverwinter Nights 2, which was developed by Obsidian Entertainment rather than BioWare. Both games received positive reviews, although it was the original that was viewed more favorably in general. Today, both stand as some of thebestDungeons and Dragonsvideo gamesever created.

The launch notes forNeverwinter Nights: Doom of Icewind Dalewere posted onSteam, detailing what players can expect from the new DLC. Notable features include “10-15+ hours of gameplay,” which continues the story of the original campaign, as well as 14 areas to explore in Icewind Dale. Five companions are available in total, with 14 new monsters and plenty of new music. All in, it seems as though it’s a great excuse to revisit one of thebest BioWare games23 years after its release.

Neverwinter Nights Gets New DLC After 23 Years

Gamers wanting to try outNeverwinter Nights: Doom of Icewind Dalewill have to pay up. At full price, the DLC will cost $9.99, but it currently has a 10% Steam launch discount until February 28. Developed byNeverwinter Nightscommunity creator Luke “Alazander” Scull, it really is a love letter to thisclassicDungeons and Dragons​​​​​​experience. Scull has even more in the works, too, withDoom of Icewind Daleplanned to be the first part of a new campaign titledThe Blades of Netheril, although there’s no timeline for the completion of this at the moment.

With the release of this new DLC, it’s a good time to be a fan ofDungeons and Dragonsvideo games. The release ofBaldur’s Gate 3was obviously huge, while it was also recently rumored that anEnhanced Edition of 2006’sNeverwinter Nights 2is in development. Gamers will have to wait and see if this comes to fruition, as it’s just a rumor right now. Considering how muchBaldur’s Gate 3has driven interest inD&D, it wouldn’t be a massive surprise.
