Summary

Daredevilis back to continue the events from the original series, which originally streamed on Netflix. Season One ofDaredevil: Born Againwas initially set to have 18 episodes, and the executive producers explained the changes.

Marvel fans enjoyed the number of episodes ofDaredevilwhen it streamed on Netflix for three seasons, as each aired 13 episodes. When Marvel Studios ended their deal with Netflix and moved the series to Disney Plus, there was an announcement that the reboot would have 18 episodes.Daredevil: Born Againis part of MCU’s Phase Five lineup and during the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2022, it was announced that the show will have five more episodes than the original series did per season. However, it turned out that the first season ofBorn Againwould only have nine episodes and the second would have eight.

The executive producers ofDaredevil: Born Again, Dario Scardapane and Sana Amanat, spoke withColliderabout the episode count of each season. They confirmed that the reboot would have fewer episodes and that Season Two would be a continuation of Season One. “Look at it as part one and part two for both seasons,” Amanat explained. Scardapane, who also wrote the show, explained that when he worked on the first season, the second season was “implied.” He said:

So when I came in and put together the overview of what the first season was going to be, the second season was implied. They are the absolute flip side to each other, which you’ll see.

Scardapane was careful not to share too much about the show that will premiere this week. However, he teased that Season One’s ending would leave clues for the next season. “Without giving too much away, at the very end of the last episode of this season, you essentially see a lot of cards being put out on a table, and Season Two is those cards going into play vigorously and perhaps viciously,” he explained. As for the series' fate after Season Two, the writer and EP can’t say for sure whether they will return. “I don’t know if the story necessarily ends at the end of the second season. I think the future’s unwritten,“Scardapane added.

At this point, it is still too early to say ifDaredevil: Born Againabsolutely has to return after two seasons. However, one thing is certain: there’s a lot of story to share, and they can extend the series if there’s enough demand. More likely, if the first two seasons ofBorn Againare a hit, fans would want more seasons. Usually, it’s great for a series to run for three to four seasons for full character development, but since the upcoming show is already a continuation ofNetflix’s series, this might not be necessary.

ButDaredevilis too good to stop. He is among the fan-favorite characters from theMCU. When the Netflix series was canceled, many were sad because fans believed it deserved a long-term future in the MCU and are thrilled about its return. Whether more seasons are needed is something we can only say after Season Two.
