Summary
Matt Murdock is making a comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Charlie Cox, who portrays the fan-favorite character, shares some details about the superhero before the premiere ofDaredevil: Born Again.
Cox and his co-star Vincent D’Onofrio have been doing interviews weeks before the release of their series on Disney Plus.Daredevilis finally returning after the fourth season of the original series on Netflix was canceled in 2018. The pair shared some teasers aboutDaredevil: Born Againand Cox said it would kick off in a “brutal” way. He also shared a major detail about his character, Matt, aka Daredevil.
Cox and D’Onofriosat down for an interview with Extra TV. According to Cox, his character went through a life-changing incident. “At the beginning of this season, there’s a very traumatic event, which is going to change Matt Murdock’s life… He’ll probably never be the same again,” Cox shared. He added that until the time of the interview, he wasn’t sure if the scene was the right thing to do but understood it was necessary because they had to “make a statement.” Cox said:
I’m still not convinced it’s the right thing to do, but we have to come back big and bold, you know, we’ve got to make a statement after all these years away, and what itdoesdo is it’s a wonderful catalyst for the rest of the story.
Aside from confirming a violent season that’s more brutal than theNetflixshow, Cox shared about the intense action fans could witness in the show. He acknowledged the contribution of Phil Silvera, their fight coordinator. According to him, they were “very fortunate” to have the “genius” Silvera on board for the project. He also dropped the particular episodes viewers should look forward to, one involving D’Onofrio’s character, kingpin Wilson Fisk.“There’s some iconic moments,” Cox said. “There’s a great one in the first episode that is our trademark, and then there’s this fight sequence later on, I think Episode 6 maybe, that mirrors something that’s happening over on Wilson Fisk’s storyline, which is pretty cool, something we haven’t done in the past. So, there’s a lot to like.” D’Onofrio also expressed how proud he was of the project. “I don’t think we could have done a better show for what we had,” he said.
Daredevil: Born Againis expected to be an action-packed adventure. Not just that, it is vicious and savage. Marvel Studios' Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, revealed on the Phase Hero podcast that theDaredevilreboot “is one of the most violent things we’ve put on screen.” Another thing that excites fans aboutDaredevil: Born Againis the potential return of the otherDefenders— Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist. Their return could add value to the show since the trio also starred in their own shows, which ended abruptly. Marvel Studios ended its deal with Netflix to bring all the characters under one platform — Disney Plus – and the planned sequels were shelved, leaving some plots unresolved. Some fans might not like the other Defenders to appear in the Daredevil reboot and would prefer them to have their own shows. However, a brief introduction of them inDaredevil: Born Againwill surely excite fans and stir an interest in making reboots for the other three defunct shows.
