Summary

Dexter: Original Sinhas been a huge hit since its launch back in December 2024. The prequel series explores Dexter Morgan’s origin story as he begins his forensic internship at Miami Metro Homicide. The series also explores the 1970s timeline, and shows Dexter and his brother, Brian Moser, before and after their mother’s brutal death. The future Ice Truck Killer also turns up in the 90s timeline, which could hint at a possible future spin-off for him.

The Dexter-verse is expanding with thesequel series,Resurrection, which is set to air on Paramount+ with Showtime this summer, andthere are also plans for a Trinity Killer origin story, so more spin-offs certainly can’t be ruled out.The Ice Truck Killer would be a great choice for a spin-off, and his appearance inOriginal Sindefinitely feels like a potential backdoor pilot to a solo show.

Original Sinis an exploration of Dexter’s origins, but it’s alsoHarry Morgan’s backstory, as well as all the other legacy characters who feature.Brian Moser was a surprise appearance in the 90s timeline, when he became a suspect in the N.H.I serial killer case being investigated by Harry and Maria LaGuerta. However, there have been significant appearances by Dexter’s brother inthe 1970s flashbacks, in the lead up toLaura Moser’s murder. It was made clear that Brian was already displaying signs of psychopathy prior to witnessing his mother’s murder. The trauma he suffered that day was the catalyst for his future crimes, and while Dexter was able to adoptHarry’s codeto deal with his murderous urges, Brian was considered a lost cause.

With just one episode left to go inOriginal Sin’s debut season, the stage is set for something big to happen with Brian Moser in the aftermath of the brutal murder he committed inthe penultimate episode. However, it’s another 15 years before Brian becomesthe Ice Truck Killer, andOriginal Sinwon’t be able to feature any significant interactions between the killer brothers, so it feels like this is all a set-up for another spin-off.Roby Attal plays Brian Moser in the 90s timeline inOriginal Sin, and he clearly has the acting chops to lead his own show, and with the Dexter-verse being such a profitable commodity right now, a solo show featuring one ofthe best villains in the serieslooks inevitable.

A Spin-Off Focused On Brian Moser Before He Became The Ice Truck Killer Would Work Very Well

The possibilities are endless for an Ice Truck Killer spin-off, with the potential exploration of his later childhood after he was separated from Dexter, after he tried to suffocate baby Debra with a pillow. So many questions still need to be answered about what happened to Brian Moser in the years leading up to him becoming the Ice Truck Killer. One more episode ofOriginal Sinwill not be enough to answer all these questions, so a spin-off series feels like the only way to explore the character in depth.

The Trinity Killer spin-offis already in the works, and it’ll feature a young Arthur Mitchell as he deals with his own childhood trauma, and embarks on his serial killing journey. Aside from Trinity’s stand-off with Dexter in the fourth season of the original series, the two characters had no previous history with each other, but his origin story will still work well to expandthe Dexter-verse lore. However,Brian Moser’s origin story couldcrossover withOriginal Sinto create a uniqueserial killer origin storyuniverseall on its own, and that would be very compelling. Of course, this all depends on what happens to Brian Moser in the finale ofOriginal Sin, with some fan theories suggesting he might have had something to do with Harry Morgan’s eventual death, which would suggest he might re-appear in a potential sophomore season of the Dexter prequel.
