Summary
Dexter: Resurrectionwill see the titular serial killer with a code surviving a gunshot wound to the chest in Iron Lake, but it’s not entirely clear what will happen in the next chapter. Filming is currently underway in the New York area, buta recent leak has suggested at least some of the sequel series will be set back in Miami, where Dexter’s serial killing days began.
This would be an exciting development, with many fans desperate to see Dexter return to his roots, especially after the prequel series,Original Sin, was set in Miami in the 1990s. Miami is like a character of its own in the Dexter-verse, so a return is more than welcomed. However, in what capacity it will be is still up for debate.

Dexter Morganis synonymous withthe iconic location of Miami, but when the limited series,New Blood, launched in 2021, the Bay Harbor Butcher was now residing in Iron Lake in upstate New York after faking his death in themuch-derived Dexter series finaleback in 2013. Filming on the sequel series,Resurrection, is taking place in New York, which suggests it’ll also be primarily set there. However,Dexter Dailyrecently discovered an upcoming casting call for Latino and Latina actors for a background scene playing Miami Lounge Patrons. Shooting of this scene took place on Thursday, February 27, in New York City, despite being set in Miami.
The Miami Set Scene Could Be A Flashback Or A Present Day Event And Other Scenes Set In This Location Can’t Be Ruled Out
Dexter Daily suggested that the Miami scene could be set in the present-day, while also conceding that it could also be a flashback. Many fans want to see Miami make a return in the current timeline after a 12-year absence. However, unless more casting calls are released for future scenes set in Miami, this particular scene won’t actually be returning to the exterior setting of Miami, which is what fans really want. Having said that, a return to Miami is still on the cards and that is exciting.Joey Quinnand Vince Masuka still work in Miami Metro Homicide, and while their returns haven’t been confirmed in Resurrection, it is highly likely they will come back. The interior sets of Miami Metro’s offices were built forOriginal Sin, albeit in a 90s setting, but a bit of a decor change could easily make it look like 2025.
David Zayas has been confirmed to return as Angel Batista inResurrection, and he’ll be a series regular this time around. This suggests Batista’s scenes will most probably be set in New York City, as he aims to bring Dexter to justice for his heinous crimes. However,it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to see Batista return to Miami at some point in the series.Michael C. Hallconfirmed in an interview with Variety that Resurrection is set for multiple seasons, so it’s highly likely the sequel series will return to Miami at some point down the line. Many fans hope Dexter will finally get a proper ending, after two failed finales, and that could quite possibly be a return to Miami to face the death penalty.
