Summary
There are very few properties across all of media that have had the same longevity as theDragon Ballfranchise. Starting back in the late 1980s, it has since grown into one of the world’s most important and beloved fictional series, as well as one of the most successful anime franchises of all time. Since it started, there have been multiple additions to the franchise that keep the story going one way or another.
The most recent of these isDragon Ball Daima. While the show undoubtedly got off to a slow start, it more than picked up the pace and delivered incredible action, beautiful animation, and wholly interesting new aspects to storytelling that have changed the way fans perceive this world. However, a common question that many ask isifDaimaneeds a second season, so let’s look at both arguments to see whether or not it does.
Debut Date
June 10, 2025
After the finale ofDragon Ball Superback in 2017, fans had been begging for any new addition to the anime side of the franchise. The manga had been going strong since then but has gone on an indefinite hiatus following theuntimely passing of the legendary Akira Toriyamain early 2024, so all the fans were fairly starved of newDragon Ballcontent. This was all remedied whenDaimawas announced.
Since most were expecting and wishing for a return ofSuper, the news ofDaimacaught them off guard. However, despite a slow and rocky start, the series really picked up, delivering some of the most jaw-dropping moments in the entire franchise that seemed to answer many fans' prayers. Although the series hasn’t ended at the time of writing, there is still a lot to do with it that remains to be answered.
Some of the best moments in recentDragon Ballmemory have occurred in this series, namelyVegeta finally unlocking Super Saiyan 3and, most shockingly, the debut of Super Saiyan 4 into the canon. The final battle with Gomah will likely see the end of the first season, but despite this, the Demon Realm is an entirely new location that’s different from the ones fans are used to and works on different laws, so there could still be a lot of potential in exploring this mysterious place.
Furthermore, the entire lore and makeup of the multiverse has been changed from what was shown inSuperwith the introduction of Majin Rymus. This seems like something that would be perfect for the heroes to explore, since it was originally believed to be 12 universes, whereasDaima’sreveal implies thousands. To see this realm and the multiverse explored without the aspects thatSuperbrought, along with the new strongest Super Saiyan 4 form, would be amazing to see in a potential future season.
WhyDaimaDoesn’t Need A Second Season
A Return To The Modern Day
With all that being said, there is just as much of a reason to close off theDaimachapter and return to the modern day.Daimais confirmed to be canon and has taken place right after the Buu arc but beforethe awakening of Beerus, meaning that the events of this series are taking place far into the past. While this was a great show and had incredible moments, fans want to see what’s next for the heroes in the current day, especially with Black Frieza running around and causing havoc.
Ideally,Daimashould get a second season, but knowing that Toei Animation can likely only do one thing at a time regarding a single franchise, most would rather see the next step in the hero’s journey over the events of the past. Plus, with the reveal of Super Saiyan 4 being a canon form, fans would love to see it incorporated into the modern-day plot line, perhaps even being used by Broly as a unique transformation.
You may have anticipated my attacks so far, but you have no idea what I’m capable of now. And what you don’t know… could hurt you!
The ending of theSupermanga left on a massive cliffhanger;Frieza is back and is far strongerthan both Goku and Vegeta, even in their most powerful forms. Fans desperately want to see a conclusion to this storyline and want to see the heroes get even stronger, so it’s about time thatSupercomes back in its fully animated glory.
At the same time, there is already a ton of great material for season 2 ofSuperwith the Moro and Granolah arcs.
All in all,Daimawas an amazing show that had some of the greatest moments in the entireDragon Ballfranchise. While the Demon Realm is incredibly fascinating and there is a bunch more of it that’s likely left to explore, many fans believe that the first season already did a great job at showing it, prompting a return to the modern day to see how the remaining arcs ofSuperwould look in an animated format.
Dragon Ballcan be streamed onCrunchyroll.
