Dragon Ball Daimawill end in a week, and although it is the shortestDragon BallTV series so far, it will be a remarkable one. Until Goku’s transformation into Super Saiyan 4 in Episode 18, one of the most thrilling events of the show waswhen Vegeta transformed into SSJ3 for the first time in an anime of the franchise.
Unlocking SSJ3 In Dragon Ball Daima
Vegetaunlocks Super Saiyan 3 in Episode 12, during the battle against Tamagami Number Two, one of the protectors of the Dragon Balls in the Demon Realm. This way, Vegeta is easily able to defeat Tamagami 2. He then unlocks it once again as an adult in Episode 19.
While this is a significant moment for fans, there’s actually no big secret here. Goku is surprised by this transformation, as he didn’t know Vegeta was able to turn into SSJ3, butBulma proudly replies that he has been training hard, suggesting that it’s been some time since Vegeta first unlocked it.
Is Vegeta Able to Transform into SSJ4?
Since Goku turned into Super Saiyan 4 in Episode 18, many fanswonder if Vegeta will be able to unlock SSJ4 too, like he did inDragon Ball GT. If it’sonly about power, and considering that Vegeta is likely to try hard to unlock it, he will probably be able to do it. However, it depends on the requirements to unlock it.
It seems that Neva’s magic played a major role in Goku’s transformation. There’s also the possibility that Saiyansneed to have a tail to be able to transform into SSJ4. Vegeta’s tail was cut off inDBZ, but he is able to grow it back inDBGT.However, he doesn’t have a tail inSuperand doesn’t seem to be able to make it grow in the series.
Anyway, if Vegeta is able to unlock SSJ4, maybe Gogeta SSJ4 will also make an appearance in the series. AsDragon Ball GTis already confirmed to serve as a starting point forDaima,it’s not unreasonable to imagine that they might make this final reference to the series.
But What About Dragon Ball Super?
Daimais supposed to take place beforeDragon Ball Super– and if these two series are in the same canon timeline, why hasn’t Vegeta transformed into Super Saiyan 3 inSuper, now that we know that he is able to do it? He could have done it in the fight against Beerus.
For now, there is no official explanation. But considering Bulma’s answer, the most likely reason is that he just didn’t want to do it. But then, why wouldn’t he want to do it? It’s Vegeta we’re talking about. He would love to show Goku that he is also able to unlock SSJ3. Well,SSJ3 is actually an exhausting transformation, as it drains energy quickly.
Following this logic, Vegeta probably turned into SSJ3 during the fight against Tamagami 2 because he knew it would be a quick battle.
For many fans, the reason Vegeta decides not to use it later on is due to this setback, and while it makes some sense, it is strange he transformed when battling Gomah but didn’t do it when fightinh Beerus. Maybe the fight against Gomah could make him realize how risky he is – or it’s more about him feeling he has a chance against Gomah if he uses his SSJ3 powers, but Beerus was on a different level, so he felt it would be better to save energy rather than unlock SSJ3.
Overall, the “saving energy” explanation makes some sense. Vegeta wants to be strong (and also wants to show he is strong), but he probably thinks that a form that can make him quickly lead to exhaustion is too tricky and should only be used at certain moments.

No sequel toDragon Ball Daimahas been announced yet, and in a recent interview, producer Akio Iyuko suggests they are not working on a second season for now – and, for many,it doesn’t need to have a sequel.
