Summary
Ever since the start ofDragon Ball Super, the power scaling of the franchise has just gone through the roof. With the introduction of Divine Techniques and the overpowered nature of potential for some characters in the series, the heroes, and villains, are on the strongest level that they’ve ever been, so much so that only the most powerful warriors can take them down for good.
One of the biggest things to come out of this is the Oracle Fish’s prophecy. What started as an off-hand remark made in his sleep inDragon Ball Super’sGranolah Arc eventually led the entire fandom down a rabbit hole of theorizingwho the most powerful warrior truly is. So, in this article, let’s go over the prophecy given by the Oracle Fish and try to surmise who it could have been talking about.
Story Arc
Granolah the Survivor Arc
At the very beginning of the Granolah arc, the titular character’s journey was shown, where he managed to gather the Dragon Balls of Planet Cereal and used them to make himself the universe’s strongest warrior in exchange for the remaining years of his life. This ended up working, which prompted the Oracle Fish to start tossing and turning in his sleep, speaking about howthe balance of power in Universe 7is about to change, since the most powerful warrior would soon rise up.
This question stayed in the back of everyone’s mind and was a driving factor behind the Granolah arc, with the answer to this question changing multiple times in the span of the arc. However, towards the end, many felt that the actual strongest character was revealed, but Whis ended the arc with a rather ominous statement which many believed threw the question up in the air again.
Who Could The Prophecy Be Talking About?
Universe 7’s Strongest Warrior
The debate about the actual strongest mortal in Universe 7 seems to have quite a clear answer, but before answering it, let’s take a look at why such confusion came from this prophecy in the first place. Going into the Granolah arc, Goku was widely considered the most powerful non-fused mortal in Universe 7 owing tohis brand-new Ultra Instinct transformationgiving him the ability to use the Angel’s Divine Technique.
However, at the very beginning of the arc, Granolah wished upon the Cerealian Dragon Balls to make himself the strongest, which was done at the cost of much of his remaining lifespan. This was seen in his opening battle with Goku, where a mere clone with a fraction of his strength somehow matched well against Goku in his Ultra Instinct state. Eventually, Granolah arrived with his full power and managed to knock Goku out in a single hit due to his superior speed overwhelming Ultra Instinct’s dodging capabilities.
Here, everyone claimed that it was Granolah that the prophecy was referencing until Vegeta shocked the world with his own Divine Transformation called Ultra Ego. Although he had never trained with this form and hadn’t even honed it a little bit, its unmatched offensive power was enough to briefly get the better of Granolah, making fans think again about the prophecy. However,Vegeta didn’t fight smart with Ultra Egoand eventually took far too much damage, whereas Granolah took advantage by unlocking a further state himself.
However, even here, the two were evenly matched, with Granolah willing to kill them both as this was the only way to stop Vegeta for good. This is where Gas came in and, after becoming the strongest through a wish like Granolah, he also unlocked a state that was far beyond anything else. Through his fights with the heroes, people began to think of him as the Universe’s new strongest, even as he was dying toward the end of the fight.
I had hoped to kill you with the technique I’ve honed. I consider this a failure on my part.
In the closing moments of the arc, all doubts were laid to rest when Frieza made his long-awaited return. Here, in his Black Frieza form, he eviscerated Gas with a quick strike and proceeded to knock Goku and Vegeta out of their most powerful forms with a single punch, cementing himself as the most powerful mortal to exist in all of Universe 7 and, most likely, the entireDragon Ballmultiverse.
Since the Granolah arc, there have been new forms that have been added to the roster of the most powerful fighters, namely Beast Gohan, Orange Piccolo, and Full Power Super Saiyan Broly. These are all incredible transformations that seem to bring previously ‘forgotten about’ characters back to the forefront. However, they are still far below Frieza, since they are implied to be on the level of Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta. Since they haven’t come close to surpassing them, Black Frieza is still who the Oracle Fish was talking about.
