Dragonkin: The Banishedallows players to create a safe haven within the gloomy dragon-blood corrupted world. In doing so, players unlock certain upgrades for their characters as well as interact with the NPCs who live and work in Eko Software andNacon’s world.
Ahead ofDragonkin: The Banished’sEarly Access release on March 6, Game Rant spoke with Eko Software production director Jean-Georges Levieux about this feature. Alongside explaining how this fan-favorite feature works, Levieux also provided some new images showcasing its development.
How Dragonkin: The Banished’s Hub Works
Levieux went into great detail aboutthe hub city, highlighting its overall importance inDragonkin: The Banishedas a whole. As expected, players can unlock services and upgrades as they level up the hub by gaining prosperity (aka experience). This unlocks new hub features for players, which Levieux described:
“These features range from unlocking merchants and craftspeople to direct bonuses for all your characters. There are also unique additions like theArsenal, which lets you save character loadouts and switch between them freely.”
Each NPC’s shop will be visually enhanced as they are upgraded, and Levieux noted that even entire districts may be improved in some cases. Most NPCs can be upgraded multiple times and players cancustomize the appearances of their citiesto give them their own unique aesthetic inDragonkin: The Banished.
Additional Endgame Content in the City
Even in the endgame, the city continues to play an important role inDragonkin: The Banished, as the new Ornamentalist shopkeeper is available to visit. Ornaments are special items that can be attached to armorto optimize gear and give players powerful abilities.
“You’ll need to visit theOrnamentalistin your city, who, in exchange for materials obtained from combat or exploration, can craft ornaments for each armor type. Equipping an ornament grantsTalent Points, which unlock powerful passive abilities that are crucial for your build.”
It’s worth paying attention to which ornaments and Talent Points are best suited to the player’s character and their chosen gear as they progress toward the end of the game. If nothing else, it’s clear how well thought out this hub is and how players will interact with it throughoutDragonkin: The Banished.
