Summary
Smithscript Weapons were introduced inElden Ring’sShadow of the Erdtreeexpansion, and reshaped combat by providing throwable versions of weapons that instantly return to the user’s hands. These weapons broaden the scope of melee boundaries, and allow for fun ways to transition between close-quarters and mid-ranged duels.
Among the many weapons scattered throughoutShadow of the Erdtree, these weapons stand out for their versatility and unique abilities. Smithscript Weapons aren’t just about raw power, but about strategizing in combat. The following Smithscript weapons are ranked by effectiveness and adaptability.
8Golem Fist
Hard-Hitting Fisticuffs
The Golem Fist is a giant fist of fractured rock taken from the body of a golem in the ruined forges. As a Smithscript weapon, this one provides a ranged melee alternative without any FP cost, although it is rather slow. The best way to get around the sluggishness is to use the Smithing Talisman and Axe Talisman as buffs to range and damage.
Dual wielding the Golem Fistlets the user throw both fists forward in quick succession. It can be infused with any Ashes of War, but the Ash of War that comes with it, called Endure, complements a tanking playstyle.
7Smithscript Axe
A Brutal Axe That Keeps Coming Back
The Smithscript Axe is a strange Smithscript weapon that deals more damage the closer the target is. It can only be thrown with a strong attack or a jumping attack, so it otherwise acts like a regular axe. Wearingthe Arrow’s Reach Talismancan reduce damage falloff, but does not extend the range, so this weapon remains solid for close combat with throwing as a way to catch enemies off guard or finish off a health bar.
The Wild Strikes weapon skill it comes with is effective for close-range combat, but an even better skill to apply is Raptor of the Mists, since this weapon can be used best with a jumping strong attack.
6Smithscript Shield
More Than Defense
This defensive armament is adorned with Smithscript power, making it another shield perfect for parrying. In addition to minor defense, this shield’s weapon skill, Discus Hurl, allows the shield to be thrown. Once thrown, the shield remains airborne for a moment before homing in on its target, making this a versatile weapon for lighter builds.
With how fast the Discus Hurl is,this shield acts as a poker from a distance, whittling away enemy health while closing distance. With the last patch in October 2024, the Shield’s damage has decreased, but it still offers a great seamless transition between defense and offense.
5Smithscript Dagger
Fast With Lethal Precision
The Smithscript Dagger offers an alternative to daggers, functioning as throwing daggers for all attacks. Despite its ranged nature, this weapon is still capable of performing critical hits like backstabs and ripostes.
The Weapon Skill it comes withis called Piercing Throw, which can throw daggers farther and pierce through enemies. While this Skill is effective in catching a line of enemies off guard, the best Ash of War to imbue is Scattershot Throw, which conjures multiple copies of the dagger to throw in a fan.
4Smithscript Spear
Versatile And Piercing Range
This spear grants the ability to impale from a distance, having one of the longest ranges for Smithscript weapons. This weaponcan be used like a regular spear, but strong attacks throw it precisely at the target. It’s highly effective on horseback, useful for tackling the larger open areas inElden Ring.
The Impaling Thrust weapon skill that it comes with thrusts the spear forward and pierces the enemy’s guard. The best Ash of War for this weapon is the Phantom Slash, which creates an apparition that guides a joint lunging upward swing and allows for a follow-up attack. The throwing ability alongside this combination is a sweet addition to closing the gap on opponents.
3Claws of Night
Scattershot And Ruthless Speed
The Claws of Night are an impressive Smithscript weapon, enabling a strong attack to launch all three claws at a target. They have a unique retreating slash similar tosome Thrusting Swords and Curved Swordsby holding the Heavy Attack button while dodging throws the claws while backstepping.
The Claws of Night cannot be infused with Ashes of War, but its Scattershot Throw is already effective. The Scattershot Throw conjures multiple copies of the claws to throw at once, and can be followed up to throw again. This deals great poise damage and is extremely useful in PvP.
2Smithscript Greathammer
Crushing From Afar
This heavy melee ranged alternative is a devastating throwable Greathammer that can be infused with Ashes of War.The Smithscript Greathammer is adaptable, as its melee damage is just as damaging as a regular Greathammer, but the spinning attack just before throwing makes this weapon worth it.
While Endure is a good skill to ensure less damage is taken, the best Ash of War to apply is Waves of Darkness. If players use Waves of Darkness just before striking, the area of effect continuously damages and staggers enemies, making the spinning throw even more destructive.
1Smithscript Cirque
Razor-Sharp And Deadly Accurate
The Smithscript Cirque is a deadly backhand blade that flies in a curved trajectory. Simply meleeing with the weapon is already effective, as the Blind Spot Ash of War associated with this weapon obliterates enemies by slipping around enemies and striking them from the side.
Players will need to remember the number of ways this weapon curves. Thrown attacks when standing or riding horseback curve to the left, while thrown attacks when running or jumping arc upwards. With how fast the weapons return after being thrown paired with Blind Spot, the Smithscript Cirque may be the most versatileand deadly Smithscript weapon there is.
