TheEpic Games Store’s latest pair of freebies was launched on February 20in the form ofWorld War Z: AftermathandGarden Story. As per usual, the arrival of the new promotion was accompanied by the announcement of the storefront’s next freebie,Mages of Mystralia. This colorful action RPG will become available to claim on February 27, at 8am PT / 11am ET / 5pm CET. The offer will remain live for exactly one week, until March 6.

What is Mages of Mystralia?

Developed by Montreal, Canada-based studio Borealys Games,Mages of Mystraliais a top-down ARPG with elemental magic and a story penned by Ed Greenwood, the creator of theDungeons and DagonsForgotten Realms world. It was originally released for PC in May 2017 before making its way to the PS4 and Xbox One in August of the same year.Mages of Mystraliahad a fairly warm reception at launch, as underlined by its “Fair” rating on OpenCritic, based on an average score of 74 and a 67% reviewer recommendation rate. Its player impressions were even better, with the game boasting “Very Positive” reviews on Steam, as well as 4.41- and 4.9-star user ratings on the PlayStation and Xbox Stores, respectively.

The newly announced promotion will mark the second time that theEpic Games Store has given awayMages of Mystralia. The indie title was previously claimable in late December 2021, but that offer was only live for 24 hours, debuting as part of the storefront’s Mystery Game holiday giveaway.

In August 2024, Boeralys Games announced aMages of Mystraliasequel calledEchoes of Mystralia. While this project is still without a concrete release date, the Canadian studio launched its first playtest on February 14, suggesting that the game’s development is progressing well. WithMages of Mystraliaset to be the Epic Games Store’s free offering on February 27, this presents the perfect opportunity for ARPG fans to experience the original game at no cost and prepare for its sequel.
