The currently airing sports romance anime,Blue Box, will have Yūki Kaji, the veteran voice actor best known for his role as Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan, but also various roles as various kinds of young male protagonists, includingKoichi Hirose fromJoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Shōto Todoroki fromMy Hero Academia, Meliodas fromThe Seven Deadly Sins, Rip fromUndead Unluckand Ukyo Chikage fromOuran High School Host Club, to name a few.

Kaji’s new role was first announced in this year’s 13th issue of Shōnen Jump magazine, and identified as Kazuma Matsuoka, a student returning to Japan from studying abroad.

As mentioned before, Kaji’s role in theBlue Boxanime will be as a student named Kazuma Matsuoka, who returns to Japan after studying in the United States for a while. He is described as a second-year student whojoins the Boys' Basketball Club at Sakae High School. Fans ofBlue Boxwill already notice that the possibility of conflict in the series will arise for its main character, Taiki Inomata, and possibly even for his live-in crush, Chinatsu Kano. Could this be the start of a love triangle involving Taiki, the new kid and Chinatsu? The student returning from studying abroad trope is heavily documented in anime and manga, especially the slice of life romance titles that are set in high school, and sometimes, part of their internal environment is some kind of disconnection from Japan or being Japanese, and by extension, their new classmates. The first cours ran from August 01, 2025,becoming available on Netflixand other streaming platforms the very next day.
