As mentioned before, Kaji’s role in theBlue Boxanime will be as a student named Kazuma Matsuoka, who returns to Japan after studying in the United States for a while. He is described as a second-year student whojoins the Boys' Basketball Club at Sakae High School. Fans ofBlue Boxwill already notice that the possibility of conflict in the series will arise for its main character, Taiki Inomata, and possibly even for his live-in crush, Chinatsu Kano. Could this be the start of a love triangle involving Taiki, the new kid and Chinatsu? The student returning from studying abroad trope is heavily documented in anime and manga, especially the slice of life romance titles that are set in high school, and sometimes, part of their internal environment is some kind of disconnection from Japan or being Japanese, and by extension, their new classmates.
