On Bluesky, Polygon Treehouse creative director Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou introduced a “No Gen AI” seal for indie game developers to use as a way to assure users that generative AI was not used in the game’s development at all.The creator ofRokiandMythwrecked: Ambrosia Islandstated that the seal does not require permission to use and that its implementation by other companies would be more of an honor system than a binding agreement. The No Gen AI seal is free for users and game developers todownload from the Polygon Treehouse website. Kanaris-Sotiriou stated that anyone who uses the seal to promote their game assumes all risks.
Game Developers Create “No Gen AI” Seal For Public Use
Kanaris-Sotiriou said that the No Gen AI seal was directly inspired bythe famous Nintendo Seal of Quality, which was changed in 2003 to its current look. Rather than triangular edges, the No Gen AI seal was designed like a cogwheel. The logo is also a golden color, with both flat and shadowed versions available to use. In response, other users chimed in with their support of the No Gen AI seal. Some users shared their variants of the seal in different styles, while others changed the words to include PC mods and non-indie projects.
AlthoughSteam has issued some rules about generative AI disclosurein games allowed on the storefront, the rules are subject to change down the line. Only time will tell how much traction the No Gen AI seal project will gain.
