Though it wasn’t openly advertised, diligent players have discovered thatGenshin Impactrecently raised the damage cap in the 5.4 update that was released on June 14, 2025. Previously, the maximum cap for any single instance of damage inGenshin Impactwas 9,999,999, but it has now been raised to 20,000,000.
Ever since it was discovered, players have been discussing the potential reason for this recent change inGenshin Impact’s 5.4 update, though, among these speculations, there’s arguably one obvious culprit. Now that players have had time to optimize their builds and team compositions for Mavuika, this new playable character seems like the obvious explanation behind this sudden change inGenshin Impact.
Why Mavuika is Likely Behind Genshin Impact’s Raised Damage Cap
Before the 5.4 update, the damage cap for a single instance of damage inGenshin Impactwas already so high that many players might be surprised to learn that such a limitation even existed in the first place. Hence, it was quite a surprise when it was discovered in the patch notes ofGenshin Impact’s 5.4 update that the damage cap had been increased from 9,999,999 to a whopping 20 million.
Imaginarium Theater and Spiral Abyss Aren’t the Only Reasons for the Raised Damage Cap
As new updates continue to introducenew characters, Artifact sets, and weapons, these new buildcrafting tools gradually push the limits of the current meta. Although this constantly evolving meta has made it easier over time for players to get closer to reaching the damage cap inGenshin Impact, this milestone is still generally out of reach for many players who don’t spend real money on upgrading the latest five-star characters with full Constellation upgrades and refining their Signature weapon.
The closest that many players ultimately come to reaching the damage cap is with the help of passive buffs during activities likeGenshin Impact’s Imaginarium Theater, Spiral Abyss, Domains, or combat events. While these buffs are much more potent for fully-optimized, meta characters, they can still make off-meta characters viable in these activities. Yet, while these endgame activities likely contributed to the recent universal increase to the damage cap inGenshin Impact, one of the new five-star characters is arguably a much more obvious culprit.
Mavuika is a Powerful DPS Without Relying on Constellations or Signature Weapon Upgrades
Now that players have had ample time to makeoptimized builds for the Pyro Archon, Mavuika, after her recent debut in the version 5.3 Event Wish Banner, this character has arguably become one of the new strongest DPS characters inGenshin Impact. Especially considering that Mavuika is available as a Supporting Cast character in the current Imaginarium Theater Season 8 inGenshin Impact, it seems like this particular five-star character is the most obvious culprit behind the raised damage cap.
Mavuika’s first rerun banner is currently predicted for version 5.7 in June 2025.
Even without any character Constellation upgrades, her signature weapon, or content-specific buffs, Mavuika’s Elemental Burst is a nuke that deals a high amount of AoE Pyro damage in a single instance attack. Naturally, having access to all of these stackable buffs and slotting her into a perfect team can make Mavuika a truly devastating character, capable of dealing insane amounts of damage.
While reaching the damage cap was previously something that was far beyond the reach of free-to-play players inGenshin Impact, the newmeta Mavuika team compositionsmake this a much more realistic goal than ever before since this character doesn’t rely on too much investment to be powerful. Ultimately, while the recently increased damage cap may have been influenced by upcoming Seasons in the Imaginarium Theater, Spiral Abyss, and combat events, it seems as though Mavuika, in particular, was the driving force behind this change.
