Ghost of Yoteiis still a mysterious game set for launch this year. Despite being announced at last year’s Sony State of Play, Sucker Punch’s follow-up toGhost of Tsushimastill has yet to reveal a lot of its details. There isn’t even an official release state set in stone, so plenty of questions currently surroundGhost of Yotei, especially when it comes to features it will take from its predecessor.
Ghost of Yoteiis making a series ofchanges that set it apart fromGhost of Tsushima. A brand-new protagonist, a time jump 300 years forward, and the introduction of matchlock guns makeGhost of Yoteian exciting shake-up. However, there are bound to be plenty of features reused in this new chapter, and one important environmental detail fromGhost of Tsushima- weather changes - will hopefully make a comeback.
Ghost of Tsushima’s Changing Weather Will Hopefully Bleed Over Into Ghost of Yotei
Jin’s Path Dictates Ghost of Tsushima’s Weather Conditions
This difference in weather based on play style is an incredibly fun way to drive home Jin’s moral leanings as the story progresses. Feeding into actions that further increaseJin’s reputation as the titular ghostnaturally makes the surrounding environment darker. This is a subtle feature, but it’s also essential in setting the tone for one’s playthrough, so it would be surprising if Sucker Punch chose not to include it inGhost of Yotei. However, because of the sequel’s setting change,Ghost of Yoteicould potentially go a different route with its scripted weather.
Ghost of Yotei’s New Location Could Bring More Dynamic Weather
The titular Mount Yoteiand the rest of the island are set apart from the rest of Japan because of its weather. Unlike most of the country, the historical island of Ezo has a climate that boasts four seasons. Tsushima Island, on the other hand, has a humid subtropical climate that makes its seasons less diverse. Mount Yotei itself can be quite snowy, which could be a compelling way to illustrate, through the environment, protagonist Atsu’s path. For example, during winter, a darker path could be marked by snow storms, while in the spring, playing as the ghost could once again bring storms and rain.

It’s unclear ifGhost of Yoteiwill showcase all four seasons, but if so, it would give the story more weather variety to play around with to bringGhost of Tsushima’s concept to even greater heights.Ghost of Yoteisetting itself apart fromGhost of Tsushimais important, but connecting features that tie the franchise together in a special way is also necessary.

The Wait for More Ghost of Yotei News Continues
Sony and Sucker Punch have kept quiet aboutGhost of Yoteisince announcing it last year, leaving many to wonder if a fresh update will come soon. It’s possible thatthe impending release ofGTA 6in the fall is causing the companies to wait and see when an official release date is announced, so that their games can sidestep the juggernaut.
AfterSony’s recent State of Play eventcame and went without any word onGhost of Yotei, it remains to be seen when gamers will get the next glimpse into the sequel. The first preview of the game was thrilling, but fans will hopefully get to see howGhost of Yoteiexpands on its predecessor’s features in the coming months. Ideally, one of the mechanics that gets expanded on will be the first game’s weather system, as it added plenty to the experience and could be made even better in the sequel.
