Summary
Halo Infinitefans are less than impressed after Halo Studios revealed details about how the classic Fuel Rod Cannon would be making a return to the game. Over the years,Halo Infinitehas dealt with plenty of controversies, so the latest one is nothing new.
WithHalo Infinite, Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) has always faced an uphill battle for support among fans. When the game was released back in 2021, it lacked several features thatpreviousHalogameshad as standard. For example, Forge mode came post-launch, as did the ability to play the Campaign in co-op. AlthoughHalo Infiniteis a much more complete game now than it was then, that reputation has followed it, which hasn’t helped whenever further issues arise in the community.
When Halo Studios revealedHalo Infinite’s Operation Frontlines updatein a live stream, it showed off a new weapon called the Fuel Rod SPNKr. This Banished weapon is supposed to resemble the Fuel Rod Cannon, a staple weapon of theHaloseries that didn’t make it intoInfinite. However, rather than being added as a brand-new weapon, it instead functions as a reskinned Rocket Launcher, complete with the same animations. Fans had been keen to see the weapon make its return, but many were not impressed with Halo Studios' approach here.
Fans Aren’t Happy About Halo Infinite’s Fuel Rod SPNKr
Across various threads on theHalosubreddit, fans noted their displeasure at the new Fuel Rod SPNKr. One gamer described it as “inexcusably bad,” while another simply said, “The state of Halo, man.” Most felt that the inclusion of an iconic weapon like this had to be done correctly, and that it deserved better than to be reduced to a skin for another weapon. Perhaps even more frustratingly for some,Halo Infinitealso teased another completely new weaponat the same time, although that won’t be released for a little while yet.
While gamers' frustration at these kinds of updates is understandable, hopefully it’s the result of the team size remaining to work onHalo Infinite. It’s confirmed now that thefuture of theHaloseries is on Unreal Engine 5, with several projects rumored to be in development as it looks beyondInfinite. Regardless of what the future holds, it doesn’t seem as though there are any plans to fully cut support forHalo Infiniteany time soon.
