Monster Hunter Wildsdoesn’t have the highest roster of monsters to hunt in the series but there are well over twenty. Plus many of these monsters are new including Quematrice and Lala Barina who are standouts. While some of the new ones are cool and returning favorites are always fun to see, that doesn’t mean it’s exactly a joy to face them.

Monster Hunter Wildsis an easier gameto get into than past entries which some diehard fans are having a problem with. That said, there are still challenging boss fights to be had in this game and these examples are at the top. They will be ranked by difficulty and their mission structure in the story.

Fighting Balahara in Monster Hunter Wilds

8Balahara

Guardian Of The Dunes

Balahara is a snake-like sandworm inMonster Hunter Wildsthat will hang out in the Windward Plains. Balahara of the Sandsea is the first mission wherein players are forced to take it down and at this point in the game, it’s not exactly easy. It’s not a devilishly evil boss fight but its slender body makes it hard to hit. Also, it’s quick and can get out of a jam by slithering around or going deep underground, so it might be best to tackle this one on the back of a Seikret.

7Yian Kut-Ku

Three For The Price Of One

Yian Kut-Ku is the first major hunt players will get into after they beatMonster Hunter Wildsfor the first time. It’s a returning monster who has appeared in games since the series debuted in 2004. In this fight, players have to catch the beast, and catching, while beneficial, is not an exact science which is one reason players may have trouble with the mission Lured By Abundance. Also, three Yian Kut-Kus will initially be on the scene and their sporadic behavior can corner players into difficult situations between their magma breath and rapid beak pecks.

6Hirabami

Advantages Over Flight

Hirabami is challenging in some of the ways Balahara is. Hirabami also has a slender, snake-like body that makes it hard to hit with the additional benefit of being able to fly. Unless players are coming into the mission, Fight or Flight, witha bow or some other ranged weapon inMonster Hunter Wildsthen they may find themselves playing the waiting game.

Players who like to farm monsters for parts by utilizing the Wound system are going to have trouble targeting the same areas to create that effect. Also like the Yian Kut-Ku fight, players will have to contend with three Hirabamis at the start.

5Nu Udra

A Fiery Octopus

Taking on Nu Udra in either the initial story mission, The Black Flame Quietly Manifests, or the latter mission, Scorching the Earth Once More, doesn’t matter.Nu Udra is easily one of the strongest new monsters inMonster Hunter Wildsno matter the ranking it is at. It’s a giant octopus that has a massive reach thanks to its tentacles plus it has the benefit of lighting itself on fire. There are areas it goes to in the Oilwell Basin that are more open but its nest is so cramped, that there is barely enough room to dodge its attacks which may result in Game Over more times than one.

4Zoh Shia

The Game’s First Final Boss

Zoh Shia is the final boss of thelower tier ofMonster Hunter Wilds. It’s a giant dragon-like beast that players don’t have to worry about chasing. They will have to contain it in the room with the Dragontorch which it feeds off of. Zoh Shia can coat itself with the Dragontorch’s essence, thus powering it up and creating a shell over its body for protection. With little room to work with against this massively sized monster, Zoh Shia is intimidating, to say the least.

3Gore Magala

Beware Its Frenzy

Gore Magala will appear late into the game’s second campaign under the mission Shrouded in Black. It is a returning monster in theseries fromMonster Hunter 4. It’s yet another dragon but this one is plaguing others around The Forbidden Lands to have Frenzy thus making them go berserk.

For example, players also have to hunt and face an evil monkey touched by the Frenzy called Blangonga who isn’t new either and first appeared inMonster Hunter 2. Gore Magala has a massive wingspan and operates in small areas, and its destructive Frenzy-tinged breath will send players into shock. If players can contain it, thankfully facing Blangonga after this won’t be that hard at all.

2Jin Dahaad

Gained A Significant Boost

The first encounter with Jin Dahaad in The Rimechain Trial is a pretty epic one with multiple chase scenes in Iceshard Cliffs. With assistance from multiple Support Hunters like Olivia, it’s not that hard of a fight. However, the later encounter in Frozen Lord on the Precipice is a whole other experience that will test the patience of any player. Its large size can plow through players like nothing and its various beam attacks can one-shot them. Plus it has a lot of HP and the fight just keeps going on and on.

1Arkveld

Finally, The True Form Reveals Itself

Players will first meet this new monster as Guardian Arkveld and fight it twice in the first half of the game. While challenging both times, the fights are manageable. It’s not until the real Arkveld appears in the final story mission, Awakening From A Dream, that things take a turn. Like Jin Dahaad, Arkveld has a lot of HP and it will take players on a tour through the Windward Plains before it will eventually fall. Its materials can get players some amazing gear in Monster Hunter Wilds but the idea of challenging it multiple times is not exactly a fun prospect as it does not get any easier.
