Having accumulated decades worth of mechanics from previousMonster Huntergames,Monster Hunter Wildsis a complex game with lots of moving parts. Special interactions and hidden moves are a part of the experience and the game would lose much of its luster without it, even if it is hard to understand for new players.
One of these mechanics is called Draw Attack, a special type of attack that interacts with certain skills. Players running those skills on their weapons and armor sets will want to know how to trigger them by performing a Draw Attack. Here is how it works.
What is a Draw Attack in Monster Hunter Wilds
A Draw Attack is an attack that occurswhen a weapon attack is performed from a sheathed position. This can occur in one of two ways:
While one might assume that every attack from a Bow should be a Draw Attack because you ‘draw’ the bowstring back in order to fire, only the first attack after unsheathing it from the Hunter’s back counts as a Draw Attack.
Generally, only the first attack immediately after unsheathing a weapon counts as a Draw Attack; the subsequent attacks do not. However, there are some exceptions. For certain weapons, the first two to five attacks after unsheathing their weapon all count as Draw Attacks (e.g., Lance’s Dash Attack hits multiple times in a single move). This is because the game considers them connected combos and not isolated instances of damage. This allows players to apply the Draw Attack bonus from Skills to all of these attacks instead of just a single one.
Monster Hunter Wildshas a setting called Auto-Sheathing that forces the Hunter to put away their weapon after a certain period has passed without combat. Turn this setting off from the Start Menu -> Controls to get more agency over your Draw Attacks.

There are only three Skills inMonster Hunter Wildsthat interact with the Draw Attack mechanic.
Increases affinitywhen performing draw attacks. (Not effective while riding.)
Punishing Draw
Adds a stun effect to draw attacks and slightly increases attack power. (Not effective while riding.)
Speeds up weapon sheathing.
TheGreat Swordand Long Sword are the two best weapons for a Draw Attack build.
