It seems likemore and more games are launchedwith bugs these days. Whether it’s because of the greed of the companies behind these launches or unforeseen bugs arising from the complexity of the game and computers is up for debate.
Civilization 7was no different and was plagued by a number of bugs of varying severity from launch day. Some of these bugs persist to this day and have yet to be addressed in a hot fix, though many more have already been resolved. One of the troublemakersthat has the community up in arms is the simple yet game-breaking bug which causes the game to crash the moment it is launched.
Why Does Civ 7 Keep Crashing?
The exact reason why the game crashes is unknown, as the developers have not addressed the issue directly, nor has the support team come forward with a statement regarding it. The usual suspects don’t quite fix it either.
Verifying the local game folder, reinstalling the game, resetting the settings, and reinstalling Steam; nothing seems to work. This is because the entire issue is caused by twosimple files found withinCiv 7’s AppData folderon your computer.
How to Fix The Crash on Startup Issue in Civ 7
There is a very simple fix if your game is constantly crashing when you start it up from steam. Here’s what you need to do:
Doing so will most likely resolve the issue. When you launch the gameagain, you’ll need to agree to Take-Two Interactive’s terms of service and privacy policy again, which will regenerate the deleted files. If this doesn’t work, you can try deleting the entire folder and relaunching the game. Doing so will reset all settings as well, requiring you to configure them to your liking one more time before allowing you to play the game. You might need to relink your 2K Account as well.Your save files won’t be affected, though you will lose your autosaves.
If this fix doesn’t work, you might be facing a separate issue entirely and might need to verify the game files, reinstall the game, or wait for a hot fix by the devs before you’re able to play the game again. Out-of-date graphics drivers can also cause issues, so updating them is also advised.
