After players reach the Endgame ofPath of Exile 2,the next challenge is the pinnacle bosses. One of these bosses is The King in the Mists, the Ritual pinnacle boss. Farming him is one of the best ways to make currency in the game as he drops two of the most valuable Uniques there are.
Unfortunately, this is one of the rarest encounters to unlock because of the absurd rarity of An Audience with the King, the unique item needed to access it. The process is grindy and time-consuming. Here’s the breakdown.
How to Get An Audience With The King in Path of Exile 2
An Audience with the King is a rare item inPath of Exile 2that can be usedat the Realmgate in the Atlasto fight the Ritual pinnacle boss,The King in the Mists. It can be obtained either through Ritual Altars or by trading with other players.
Ritual Altar Method
An Audience with the King has a very small chance of appearing as a reward (Favor) in Rituals and can be bought using Tribute. To see if a Ritual contains An Audience with the King or not, you’ll usually need to clear all 3 or 4 Rituals in the map node first to uncover all possible rewards.
An Audience with the King can appear in low-tier maps; it doesn’t need to be aTier 16+ Waystonefor this item to appear.
If An Audience with the King is not present, you may reroll the reward pool by pressing the button at the top. Doing so costs 1000 Tribute. Do note, however, that An Audience with the King costs anywhere between2500 to 7000 Tributeto obtain, which means it is nearly impossible to have enough Tribute to buy it the first time you see it.
When doing Rituals to farm for An Audience with the King, make sure not to spend any favor until all Rituals in the map are complete and you have rerolled the reward pool as many times as possible.
In most cases, you will have to use the ‘Defer’ function (bottom of the rewards menu), to defer the item.Deferring an item from Rituals guarantees that it will appear within the next few Ritual nodes.It costs a fraction of the total item price and when the item appears the next time, it will be discounted by the amount paid to Defer it (this can be repeated). It might not appear in the very next Ritual you complete, but it will appear again eventually. The more valuable an item, the longer it takes for it to return. And since An Audience with the King is the most valuable item in the entire reward pool, it can take ages for it to come back. But itwillcome back.
Even then, deferring the item once may not be enough. When An Audience with the King appears again as a Ritual reward, you will likely have toDefer it repeatedly until it gets cheap enough for you to buy.This is why getting the Audience is not a simple matter of getting it to spawn. You have to clear dozens of Ritual maps to grind away at its base cost as well.
An Audience with the King can sometimes be so expensive that you may not even have enough favor to Defer it. If this happens, there is nothing you can do except give up on that attempt.
Trade Method
Players can always buy An Audience with the King themselves if they have theDivine Orbto spare. It can be purchased both on the officialPoE 2trade site andfrom the Currency Exchange. The Currency Exchange is recommended as it is managed by the game itself and there is no chance of a scam occurring.
The price of items inPath of Exile 2fluctuates with the market, which is entirely player driven. This is why there is no set price for an item inPoE 2. As a general rule of thumb, however, An Audience with the King’s price hovers somewhere around 5-10 Divine Orbs.
An Audience with the King Farming Method in PoE 2
The most important item needed for farming An Audience with the King areRitual Precursor Tablets.These are a special variant of Precursor Tablets that only drop from Ritual Altar-spawned monsters. When placed inside a cleared Tower, they turn regular map nodes around that Tower into Ritual map nodes. Some good modifiers for these Tablets are:
An Audience with the King is one of the very few items in the game that does benefit from the Increased Rarity of Items Dropped stat, as it is not actually a dropped item but a random spawn inside a shop. As such, farming it is different from everything else.
Ritual Precursor Tabletscan be purchased on the trade site individually or in bulk from the in-game trade channel.
Should You Use An Audience With The King or Sell it?
An Audience with the King is anincredibly expensive itemon its own, which means players not confident in facing the King of the Mists boss can choose to directlysell it on the trade site/currency exchange instead of attempting to run it. This makes farming for it a viable means of becoming rich inPoE 2, even if you don’t have a good enough build for the actual boss fight. It just takes a lot of grinding.
Using An Audience with the King is, of course, the better option overall, as The King in the Mists drops some of the most valuable Uniques in the entire game. The two most valuable drops are:
