Players can only obtain resources withinthe territory of their settlements, making it important to create new settlements in areas with a decent amount of resource availability to properly make use of the settlement soft cap that the game imposes. When the city of a player grows in population, they will get the option to grow the city by improving a tile. If you choose to improve a tile with a resource on it, you will obtain that resource. Once players have a resource, they will be taken to the resource allocation menu, where they can select which resource goes to which settlement.
All the resources are placed within the same pool, but they are divided between bonus resources and city resources, the latter of which can only be assigned to cities. During this time, players can reassign all the resources the way that they want, removing them from settlements or adding new ones, though they are limited by the amount of slots each settlement has and the type of resources they can accept.
Once you close this menu, you won’t be able to reallocate resources until you improve a new resource tile or open a new trade route with a merchant unit. Resources that players gain on different continents or settlements not connected to each other won’t be available for allocation until players connect them via roads,something that a merchant can accomplish. If the settlement is on another continent next to open waters, a Fishing Quay is a requirement for them to connect to the mainland.
How To Increase Slots For Resources In Civ 7
There aren’t a lot of ways to increase theresource slots available to different settlementsinCiv 7. However, in general, they correlate to the size of the population of any given settlement. The caveat is that towns have a smaller ratio of population to resource slot compared to cities, which can house much more resources.
One of the resources that players can obtain before the modern age, Camels, provide additional slots for the settlement it gets assigned to. As it is a city resource,only cities can benefit from this boon. Other than that, the only way to increase the number of resource slots is to keep increasing the population of the settlement.
