How to Use Mods in Avowed

As of writing,Avoweddoes not have any official modding support, which means users won’t be able to createcontent like equipment, companions, or maps. However, creators in the Avowed Nexusmods page have already started publishing QoL mods that improve various parts of the game. Thankfully, they’re pretty simple to install, and the same instructions work for both the Steam and Game Pass versions ofAvowed.

As far as simple QoL mods go, all you have to do is extract their contents into the ~mods folder in yourAvowedinstallation directory (if this folder doesn’t exist, create it). You can go directly to your game installation folder by doing the following:

Steam Installation Directory

Xbox Game Pass

IfAvoweddoes get mod support, all other .pak mods should be installed this way too, as is usually the case with modern Unreal Engine games.

Installing Engine Tweaks

Engine tweaks could be your answer if you’re struggling toget a good frame rate forAvowed. Tweaked files normally alter additional settings that are otherwise unavailable through the in-game options menu. Installing these are as simple as the mods above, but you’ll need to place the files in a different folder:

Replace the Engine.ini there with the one you downloaded, but don’t forget to make a backup in case things go wrong. Also, once you’ve replaced the .ini file, turn on theRead-Onlysetting by right-clicking the file, clicking on Properties, then checking the Read-Only box near the bottom of the window. This will prevent the game from overwriting the custom Engine settings.

you’re able to also customize these modded Engine.ini files to your liking by opening them with Notepad or any text file reader, though they’ll likely be difficult to edit unless you know how Unreal Engine 5 works.
