When it was announced thatAvowedwould be presented from afirst-person perspective, there were many players who hoped that an optionalthird-person perspectivewould be made available. Luckily, Obsidian Entertainment heard those fans, and did exactly that. The issue of gameplay perspective in action-RPGs has become quite contentious of late, with first-person supporters arguing that it is far more immersive. However, many players simply prefer to see their character, especially if they’ve created them. While the game was clearly designed for the first-person perspective, many players will be thrilled to know that a third-person option is even an option. In this guide, we’ll show youhow to quickly switch to a third-person perspective inAvowed.
How to Play Avowed in Third-Person Perspective
There are two methods forswitching gameplay perspectives inAvowed. The game was clearly designed with a first-person perspective in mind, so all settings will be in first-person by default. However, Obsidian clearly knew that there would be a wide range of players who would want to play in third-person, so they made switching incredibly easy.
The first method is through the main menu, and will be the method most players will come across if they search for it. The second method, which is accomplished with the controller, is not as obvious, as there is nothing in the game that hints at any type of shortcut.
Third-Person Menu Selection:
To change gameplay perspective through the main menu, go to the Settings section during pause. Select theGametab and go down the list until you encounter theCamerasection. Third-Person View is the first option in Camera. Switch it to ‘On’.
Third-Person Controller Shortcut:
you’re able to use the controller to completely avoid the menu and switch to a third-person perspective at any time. To do this, simplyhold down the right stickbutton. Make sure to give it a second, as it doesn’t happen automatically.
On PC, you will want to hold the U key to switch to a Third-Person POV.
Third-Person Benefits:
WhileAvowed’s combat was clearly designed to be performed in first-person, there are benefits toswitching to third-person. There are several caves and dark areas that seem to be much easier to view from a third-person perspective. In most cases, first-person is much better for extreme close quarters. However, if you find yourself looking for a switch or button in a very tight space, try switching to a third-person perspective. Having a full view of your surroundings can be beneficial in this case.
Third-person is also much better for viewing your character and their attire, as well asAvowed’s unique godlike features, which is why so many players prefer this view in the first place. As we continue to exploreAvowed, we will add any further benefits to this section.
