Summary

Marvelfans have been waiting for years to watch MCU’sX-Men. One of the producers explained why they had to wait for the reboot but gave a positive update about it.

Disney acquired the rights toX-Menwhen it purchased 21st Century Fox in March 2019. The acquisition included the film rights for X-Men, Fantastic FourandDeadpool. Although anX-Menreboot film is still in development, Marvel Studios has been integrating mutants into the MCU. For instance, Professor X (Patrick Stewart) appeared inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness(2022) and Hugh Jackman also reprised his popularX-Mencharacter, Wolverine, and even partnered with Ryan Reynolds to lead the hitDeadpool & Wolverine(2024). MCU’sMs. Marvelwas also led by Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), who was labeled a mutant. In 2023, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed they were developing an X-Men reboot but were not in a rush, with many projects underway. A Marvel producer explained why they were not rushing the reboot.

Marvel producer Nate Moore spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the anticipatedX-Menreboot.According to him, they did not rush it becausethere was a “cooling off period” after Disney acquired the rights toX-Menand this is the reason they did not feature the mutants in MCU’s movies and TV shows right away. He added that the waiting period was over and they were already working on it. “Now that we can build the path towards X-Men, we want to start sprinkling in these things so that it doesn’t feel like you’re going to drink from a fire hose when that movie comes, so that the MCU starts to lay the groundwork for what could come,” Moore explained.

Moore added that their plans for X-Men were not yet concrete and “pretty fluid.” However, they were making progress and he assured that the film was definitely happening. Feige also gave an update about the reboot at APAC’s Disney Content Showcase in Singapore in November. He appeared over webcam and said they had already started incorporatingX-Meninto the MCU. “It has already started. Certainly,Deadpool & Wolverinewas the biggest yet,” Feige said. “I think you’ll see that continue into our next few movies and some X-Men players that you might recognize. And then right after that, the whole story ofSecret Warsreally leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. And, again, one of these dreams come true that we finally have the X-Men back at Marvel Studios.”

Feige is right and Marvel fans can’t argue with that. In fact, Wolverine’s partnership with Deadpool made the third installment the most successful in the franchise, making over $1.3 billion. With regards toSecret Warssetting up the new age of mutants, there are rumors thatStewart’s Professor X will make an appearancein the film. This made sense since Professor X founded Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. He trains them to use their powers responsibly to help the mutants co-exist with humans peacefully. He serves as their mentor and father figure. His guidance shapes the team, so ifSecret Warsset the ground for X-Men, then the rumors about Professor X’s appearance are likely true. Let’s wait and see.
