Swinging through the stunning New York skyline inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2is an unmatched experience. The sequel has somehow improved traversal and exploration, making theBig Apple feel more alivethan ever. However, many players overlook this aspect, getting caught up in the high-stakes, action-packed campaign missions.

As a result, much of the open-world content andside activities end up on the backlog. This raises an important question — when is the best time to explore the city? That’s exactly what the guide below aims to answer.

Spoiler Warning: some minor story spoilers are touched upon when pinpointing the best times to delve into side activities.

Why Should You Explore Later In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2grants players access to its open-world elements early on, butmany key abilities remain locked at the start. This means completing side missions and other activities with a limited skill set, making certain challenges more difficult than they need to be.

For the best experience, it’s recommended to hold off on exploration, at least for a little while, until you’ve unlocked a good number of skill points, abilities, and essential gadgets.

When Should You Explore In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

The best time to start exploringMarvel’s Spider-Man 2is around thehalfway point of the main story. Once you complete the quest “Good Men” andacquire the Black Suit, you’ll unlock new abilities that make side content much easier (and fun) to tackle. While you won’t have access to every upgrade, you’ll have enough tools to easily handle most open-world activities.

Alternatively, if you want to embrace Peter’s edgier side —similar toSpider-Man 3— hold off until after the"It Chose You" quest, which is only a few missions later. Completing this mission grants you the Symbiote Suit, which makes Peter more aggressive and hostile. While waiting for this mission isn’t necessary, playing through side content with a not-so-friendly Parker adds an amusing touch.

Keep in mind that you’ll lose the Symbiote Suit aftercompleting the “Set Things Right” quest, so if you want to explore New York with an angry Parker, do so before progressing past that point.
