Summary
Season one ofYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manhad a lot more villains than some fans would have expected, or at least it had a lot of crumbs in it. The only named villain in season one is Scorpion, who gains his armor by the finale. Tombstone just gets his powers in this same time frame.A symbiote-like creatureis fought in episode one, and Dr. Otto Octavius is around scheming, but he does not become Doc Ock.
There are a lot of crumbs, in other words, forbig supervillains to appear in the next season ofYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.Some of those will be elaborated on here, and other villains who didn’t show a single hair in season one will also be named, just for speculative fun.
7Rhino
Was Mikhail A Red Herring?
Rhinoseems like an obvious shoo-in for season two, despite the misleading information in season one. In the comics, Rhino’s real name is Aleksei Sytsevich, but inYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,they call him Mikhail Sytsevich. They make a reference to Mila, one of his teammates, looking like a rhino with her mechanized helmet until she says she’s more like a Unicorn.
It’s unclear ifYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manis trying to be clever with its references or to throw out some red herrings. Mikhail may become someone besides Rhino, but whether he gets to be him or not, Rhino as a potential upcoming villain is a classic choice who would put Spider-Man’s strength to the test.
6Green Goblin
All We Got Was A Glider
In most cases, Norman Osborn becomes theGreen Goblinin the comics. That has changed to include Harry Osborn taking on the mantle, and of course, there’s also Hobgoblin. The 1994Spider-Mancartoon, for example, was more interested in Hobgoblin than the Green Goblin.
In season one ofYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Norman appears to be more of a good guy, giving advice to Peter and providingvarious suits for Spider-Man. He even saves Peter’s life via a glider that looks suspiciously like the Green Goblin’s. Hopefully, these aren’t just teases, and fans get to see the mean green machine in season two.
5Doctor Octopus
Could The Legs Go To Someone Other Than Otto?
Dr. Otto Octavius, orDoc Ock, is one of the best villains in theSpider-Manfranchise thanks to his relationship with Peter. The two become close in most story arcs, which is why Otto’s descent into madness is so sad, like in the 2004 Sam Raimi adaptation. However, Peter does not know him personally inYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,and by the time season one wraps up, the good doctor is in jail.
Before being captured by Iron Man, Doc Ock uses tentacles to fight back against the police, but they aren’t attached to his back yet. He has yet to become the fearsome Doctor Octopus, and it would be intense to see Doc Ock and Green Goblin go after each other in season two, since there is an established rivalry between Norman and Otto already.
4Venom
Who Will Become The Famous Symbiote?
Venomis the biggest character in this franchisenext to Spider-Man. He technically may have already been shown, as season one opens with a symbiote-like creature fighting Doctor Strange. It looks like Venom because of the black design and the white symbol, but it’s also a bit bug-like. When this creature returns in the finale, it leaves a bit of goo behind.
This goo could create a more classic interpretation of the character. It could attach itself to Peter to give him the iconic black suit, or it could change one of his friends to become Venom, like Harry Osborn, which has happened before in the comics and inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. Season two ofYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Mancould even be about a symbiote invasion, so the more Venom-like creatures, the better.
3Doctor Doom
The Spider-Man Cartoons Love Him
Doctor Doomis the main antagonistof the Fantastic Four. Despite that, Spider-Man has clashed with Doctor Doom by himself in a lot of comics and cartoon adaptations. For example, he was all over the 1981 cartoon, with multiple references in just the intro.
As such, it wouldn’t be out of line to get Doctor Doom in season two ofYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The more mad scientists, the better, to give both Norman Osborn and Doc Ock a run for their money.
2Red Skull
An Easy Way To Tie In Captain America
Captain America isall over season one ofYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,but he never interacts with anyone. He can be seen during news broadcasts, and there’s a big picture of him shaking hands with Norman Osborn in his office. Peter also tells Harry he is a huge fan, and it’s part of why he likes red and blue so much for his costume.
Then there’s the reference that the current Steve Rogers is a clone. All signs point toYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manbringing Captain America in at some point. If they do,Red Skullshould accompany him as his archnemesis, even if he’s stuck in a World War 2 flashback. Spider-Man has faced Red Skull before alongside Captain America, like in the 1994 cartoon.
1Mister Negative
A Nod To The Sony Games
Mister Negativewas one of the main villains in theMarvel’s Spider-Manvideo game. He’s a newer character in the Spider-Man stories, but still pretty effective. He hasn’t been seen onscreen much outside of the game, which is why he’d be perfect forYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
His powers can alter reality, bringing an exposure to time itself. How he would tie into any of the already-established characters is a mystery, but either way, he would be an interesting addition. Even just getting a tease of Mister Negative in season two with his true self, Martin Li, being introduced would be enough to drum up excitement.
