Summary

It’s always hard whenever an iconic voice actor steps down, especially concerning equally iconic anime characters. This usually happens for characters of long-running series. Just recently, Franky’s voice actor fromOne Piecestepped down, and fans worry this could happen with more characters as voice actors age.

Dragon Ballfans, however, don’t need to worry about thatwith Masako Nozawaanytime soon.

Masako Nozawa Wants To Voice Goku for a Very Long Time

She Says She Wants To Voice Him Until She’s 182

Masako Nozawa is one of the most iconic and recognizable voices in anime. She voices perhaps the most popular and well-known anime character, Goku, the main character of the humongous series Dragon Ball.

Masako Nozawa has been voicing Goku for quite some time now. Dragon Ball anime first premiered in 1986, and this was a whopping 39 years ago, which is almost 4 decades. Masako Nozawa has been voicing Goku all this time.

She started voicing Goku when she was 49 years old. Now, she is 88 years old, but has no plan of stopping to voice this beloved anime character.

“It Would Be Meaningless To Fight You Now; You’re Too Scared And Ashamed. Live With The Shock. Keep It Bottled Up Inside Of You. Goodbye, Frieza, May You Live The Rest Of Your Life In Peace.” — Goku

In fact, recently, she talked during the presentation ceremony for the Mainichi Art Award Special Price and revealed thatshe wants to voice Gokuuntil she is exactly 182 years old, a very arbitrary number. Obviously, she is joking, but what she’s saying is that she will voice Goku as long as she possibly can, and has no plan to retire right now. For an 88-year-old, she is doing very well right now.

This is good news for Goku and Dragon Ball fansin general, as Goku would lose a lot of his charm without Nozawa’s iconic voice.

The latestDragon Ballproject Nozawa worked on was Dragon Ball Daima, a new story for the series where Goku and Vegeta both get turned into kids and go on new adventures, getting into brand-new fights. This season is ending, however, but she will definitely return to voice Goku if a season 2 of this series is done, which might be the case.
