One of the tricks that new players, and even veterans, may not be fully aware of is how the abandon quest system works and why it is one of the more underutilized systems the hunter has access to. Abandoning quests is not about giving up on a difficult hunt but about gaming the system. Here’s the breakdown.

Reasons To Abandon Quests in Monster Hunter Wilds

There are two main reasons to abandon quests inMonster Hunter Wilds:

Force Change Season and Time of Day

Accepting an Optional Quest inMonster Hunter Wildschanges the season and time of dayaccordingly. In the Optional Quest screen, players will be able to see what season and time of day that quest will take them to and plan accordingly.

The best example of how this is useful is the Nightflower Pollen, an extremely rare item that only spawns at Nighttime under the full moon in the season of Plenty in the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest. Players can, of course, spend 300 Guild points to Rest and pass the time to this exact moment, but doing so costs 300 Guild Points. Spending that amount of GP might be worth it in the short term, but for players hoping to actually farm this item or any other item that has a limited spawn rate, this can get very costly, very fast.

However, if the hunter instead opts to start an Optional Quest that is set in the Windward Plains, at Nighttime and during Plenty, they will have to spend no Guild Points to do so. Best of all, thanks to the ability to abandon quests, they can repeat the process ofspawning the Nightflower Pollenas many times as they want with no downtime.

Reset Resource Spawn Points

Every time you accept an Optional Quest inMonster Hunter Wilds, it respawns almost all resources inside the game. Then, abandoning that quest will respawn all of those resources once more, which can then be respawned one more time by accepting another quest and repeating the process.

While this method is quick and fast, it is not the most efficient method for farming resources in-game. To respawn resources instantly, all players need to do isfast-travel to a different regionthan the one they are currently in and then immediately fast-travel back. Upon returning, all resources on the map will have respawned. It’s faster than accepting and abandoning quests because the wait is shorter, and you can fast-travel to the exact location where the resources you want to gather are instead of being forced to return to camp.

It’s bad etiquette to abandon quests in an online lobby, as it could inconvenience other players who join in.
