When it comes to RPGs with a deep armor system, there are a wide variety of armor sets and outfits that the players could acquire, each one offering different statistics on the amount of damage they can absorb or other kinds of buffs they may deliver.
However, not all the armor sets look cool enough to the players, and that’s when a transmog system (or layered armor, asMonster Hunter Wildscalls it) comes in handy. A system that allows players to reserve both luxurious looks and high-level statistics — hitting two birds with one stone!
How To Unlock Layered Armor (Transmog System) In MHW
All you need to do iscomplete the opening quest of the gameinMonster Hunter Wilds. This includes the opening cinematics as well as the fight against the toad-like monster inside the cave, calledChatacabra. The monster will flee multiple times after getting injured, so ensure to follow it and end its life.
After defeating the monster, the player will be teleported to the first camp after a cinematic plays. Here, the hunter must talk to three ally NPCs, includingNata, Gemma, and Olivia. Then, head to theExpedition Command tent. After another cinematic, theplayer’s personal tentwill be marked on the camp’s map, and that’s where you can try out the transmog system.
How To Equip Layered Armor In Monster Hunter Wilds
Go to your personal tent at any camp inMonster Hunter Wilds, then switch to theAppearance Menutab. Now, selectEquipment Appearance. Here, you can see the Layered Armor in use for each part of the character’s body, from the head to the shoes.
If the icon for a part of the body is gray, it means no layered armor has been equipped, which will be the case if this is the first time you are visiting this menu. There is also a radio button next to each cosmetic type, which enables or disables the transmog for that specific part of the body. Disabling the transmog for a specific part will simply make the gear that character wears for that part invisible. For example, if you disable layered armor for all parts, your character will appear with the starter outfit, while they still benefit from stats of the equipped armor sets.
Now, if you want to weara specific skinover an armor piece, make sure the transmog for that part of the body is enabled, then click on the icon and select one of the available skins for that part.
For players who don’t have any skins, no options will be shown in this section.
After choosing your favorite skin, return to the previous menu, and you will spottwo colored rectanglesnext to that piece of a gear, allowing you tochange the color paletteof the skin.
Once done with wearing the skins, the player can return to the Change Equipment panel in the Equipment Menu of the tent. Now, if you change your armor piece for a body part with layered armor, the appearance of the character will not change, but stats will be different.
