While MDR gets much of the focus inSeverance, another department is explored in Season 2, with the Mammalians Nurturable Department emerging withthe frightening and tense Lorneleading the suspicious group.

Tasked with managing a group of goats, Lorne and her team’s apprehension of Mark and Helly when coming to visit their department is immediately apparent, with their tension-filled standoff alluding to the group being affected and influenced by someone or something at Lumon. Lorne’s peculiar and aggressive nature, along with her unusual workload, only seeks to confuse not only Mark and Helly but viewers alike.

Lumon’s very own Natalie Kalen has been identified as one of Lumon’s higher-ups, acting as a spokesperson for the company and its secretive board. InSeverance, Natalie’s overly pleasant attitude and approach to her employees come across as eerie, with her interaction with Mr. Milchick after gifting the severed floor manager a selection of paintings only contributing to the many examples of her creepy demeanor.

Alongside Mr. Drummond and Helena Eagan, Natalie operates on the ground at the Lumon headquarters, with her overall contributions to Lumon being a complete mystery as of yet.

Darri Ólafsson

Introduced in Season 2 is the Lumon loyalistMr. Drummond, an intelligent executivewho works alongside Natalie and Helena at Lumon’s base of operations. While Drummond’s specific role has yet to be revealed, the Season 2 newcomer has enforced his rules and skillset in the wake of MDR’s transgressions on the outside.

Besides spying on Devon and Mark’s animated conversation at a diner, Drummond’s extensive drilling of Milchick in his performance review only adds more questions about Mark’s progress and the higher-ups' overall mission, with Drummond’s commanding but mysterious role proving vital to events.

Karen Aldridge

One ofSeverance’smost mysterious characters happens to be Asal Reghabi, a supposed former worker at Lumon who intends toaid Mark in his search for answers, including finding Mark’s wife, Gemma Scout. Introduced midway through Season 1, Reghabi appears out of nowhere to connect with Mark, revealing her role in planting the chip into his head that enables the severed process.

Amid eliminating threats from Lumon and participating in therapy to help Mark gleam into his work life, many questions can be thrown at Reghabi about the lengths she goes to help Mark, her legitimacy, and the lack of interference from Lumon in stopping her, all questions that validate apprehension from audiences.

Patricia Arquette

Initially acting as the show’s first antagonist, Harmony Cobel has left a tremendous impact on proceedings, withthe former severed floor manager’s behaviorand decisions often prompting confusion. From the very onset, Cobel’s dual life as Mrs. Selvig, Mark’s neighbor, and his boss, has caused many questions from not just Mark and Devon when they find out, but Lumon themselves, with Natalie and the board disapproving of her methods.

Along with her obsession with Mark and his Cold Harbor work being completed, much can be questioned as to why Cobel is so intrigued by Mark and why she has such a fascination and loyalty to Kier and the objectives of Lumon.

In Season 2, much of the narrative revolves around Ms. Casey, formerly known as Gemma, Mark’s supposed deceased wife, who now works on the severed floor at Lumon as a Wellness Director. For as long as Mark had known, Gemma had died in a tragic car crash. However, the character reemerged as Ms. Casey without recollecting her past with Mark. Much has been speculated about Gemma and her resurrection, much pertaining to Mark’s work on Cold Harbor.

So far in Season 2, Outie Mark’s investigation into Gemma being alive has proved fruitful, with Reghabi’s confirmation and her therapy with Mark enabling him to visualize Gemma at work. Along with questions about her apparent death and what her reemergence has to do with the testing floor, Gemma seems integral to Mark and Lumon’s progress, no matterhow twisted and unethical it looks.

Despite only appearing in a select few scenes so far, Jame Eagan has been filled with an aura of mysticism and mystery, acting as Lumon’s leader as the company’s current CEO.When Helly R makes itto the outside, the character comes into contact with Jame, her supposed father, with his words of wisdom and his vision for Lumon being spoken with utter devotion and commitment.

Between his infrequent appearances and odd behavior, Jame is head of his family’s company at the time that Mark is set to make a significant breakthrough in Cold Harbor. Due to Mark’s seemingly significant contributions and Jame’s foundations laid as CEO, Lumon is set to reach a historical landmark where only senior members such as Jame are aware of the incoming wave that will alter Lumon’s trajectory.

Much ofSeveranceand its mystique is held by the hidden and god-like figure Kier, founder of Lumon. Much of Lumon and its members came to view the much-heralded founder as a godsent figure who had revolutionized humanity, with his legend constantly being retold to its employees. Living for almost a hundred years, Kier orchestrated the inception and rise of Lumon with his very own hands, much to the amazement of characters like Helena and Cobel.

The recent tale of Kier and his brother Dieter at Woe’s Hollow only enshrouded the character in more mystery as MDR followed his path, hoping tolearn more about his story and wisdom. Despite being long gone, Kier’s influence over the show has been nearly unmissable, with his mysterious presence looming heavily over Lumon’s current projects.
