Summary

Fans of Netflix’s live-actionOne Pieceadaptation might still have a bit of a wait ahead for the show’s highly anticipated second season, but there’s even more good news to make the wait worthwhile, thanks to a prominent cast member.

While theOne Piecemanga had given rise to a multimedia juggernaut by the early 2000s with a successful anime adaptation and myriad games, merch items, tie-ins, and more, the collection wasn’t entirely complete until Netflix stepped in. Taking a chance on a live-action adaptation of the heavily stylized world of Eiichiro Oda’s design, the streamer was rewarded with a surprisingly well-received first season and tons of viewers. Thanks to this success and the ongoing support of the franchise creator, the show was renewed for a second season, and the streamer would confirma release window for the next installment of the live-actionOne Pieceshow.

There’s clearly a lot of confidence in the show’s continued success at Netflix, and this seems to be shown in the streamer’s content decisions. While recent rumors suggested thatNetflix had already quietly greenlit a third season of the live-action One Pieceshow, fans now have a much more trustworthy source confirming the good news.Popversereports that while promoting his role in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows game, fan-favoriteOne Piecestar Mackenyu made some comments concerning scheduled work for the year. “We do have projects lined up for this year before we shoot Season 3 of One Piece,” Mackenyu explained, “but I can’t tell you anything about that, so it’s not going to be fun for y’all.” Despite trying to keep mum on plans forOne Piece, the star seems to have momentarily forgotten that the third season hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.

Mackenyu’s confirmation that the show is being renewed for a third season is obviously fantastic news, and the nature of the reveal is also incredibly hilarious. Fans did geta hint that a third season was coming via Writer’s Guild of America West’s official website, which was updated with the writer’s room details for season three earlier in the month, but Mackenyu’s slip-up acts as confirmation that the show has been renewed through season threeandthat filming on the third season is already set to start this year. This is also great news, as it means the third season will be that much closer to hitting Netflix. As for Mackenyu, who recently expressed his desire to keep playing the show’s Zoro well into his seventies, this is a great step in the right direction for that goal. His performance was a standout even within what some consider a perfect cast for the show, thanks to the character’s impressive design, charisma, and combat prowess. The star promised fans an even more impressive performance in the upcoming second season, and there’s no reason to expect him to drop the ball on the now-confirmed third installment either.

It’s clear to see that Netflix’sOne Piecehas been good for business, evengivingOne Piecemanga and merch sales a boostin some Western markets. The cast and crew certainly earned the confidence of the streamer and others involved, and if the show can maintain the first season’s stellar quality across the second and third iterations, then it will undoubtedly see even more renewals, and Mackenyu might just get to play Zoro in his seventies after all. For now, fans are going to have to take things a step at a time and wait for season two to premiere.

Netflix’s live-actionOne Pieceis available to stream on Netflix, with season two set for a late 2025 release.
