Summary

Continuing its run of keyCivilization 7updates, developer Firaxis Games has revealed a mix of gameplay tweaks and new content arriving in the game on Jun 30, 2025, and beyond. This announcement follows a few different patchesCivilization 7players have received over the past month, which were shipped in response to the early-access feedback obtained before its official launch on February 11.

Being the firstCivilizationgame to come out in nearly a decade,Civilization 7experienced a significant influx of playerswhen it finally rolled out, getting a peak concurrent player count of over 80K on Steam just the next day after release. While the critics generally praised the game, a certain section of fans—especially those on Valve’s platform—expressed their disappointment at the state of the turn-based strategy title. As a result, it currently has a “Mixed” rating on Steam based on more than 25K reviews, out of which only 50% are positive. However, Firaxis has been addressing the shortcomings at a reasonable pace and even made a sizable patch available on the first day.

In the latest development, theCivilization 7developershared a comprehensive roadmap, detailing the game’s updates lined up for March 2025 and for the future. First off, with Update 1.1.0 on March 4, it is set to introduce certain tweaks and refinements to the UI—a major area of concern as per the negative reviews on Steam. This patch is set to bring new content and gameplay changes, including the addition of Bermuda Triangle as a new natural wonder, some important adjustments to Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory, fixes to various multiplayer issues, and more. Importantly, the March 4 update will also re-enable crossplay between consoles and PC, which was previously disabled to deliverpatches forCivilization 7’s PC version at a faster rate. Moreover, the Natural Wonder Battle in-game event, slated for launch with this update, is now postponed without a date in order to make room for the developer to focus on quality-of-life changes first.

Civilization 7 Getting Two Big Updates in March 2025

In addition to the March 4 patch, theCivilization 7team also laid out some of the highlights of the 1.1.1 patch scheduled for March 25. This update is being planned to add a Quick Move function, the ability to customize the names of commanders and cities, Mount Everest as another natural wonder, and even more UI improvements, among other things. While the first March update will unlock the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection DLC, the second March update will roll out the remaining content. For otherCivilization 7patches coming in the future, the developer has expressed interest in delivering useful features, such as new resource types, research queueing, multiplayer teams functionality, modding support, and more.

Judging by the cadence of updates, the commitment of Firaxis looks promising forCivilization 7’s long-term performance. However, only time will tell if these changes manage to successfully win back the favor of those players who have been left disgruntled by the game’s initial state.
