Insider Gaming reportsthat the upcomingFar Cryextraction shooter codenamedProject Maverickhas been rebooted. According to various sources close to the game, it was becoming increasingly obvious that this title would need a reboot, with some saying that there was “writing on the wall.” These reports note that the final push leading this game to this state was that its core tech team, known as Talisker, was put to work onProject Blackbird, the mainFar Cry 7project.

Far Cry Project Maverick Reportedly Rebooted

Originally,Project Maverickwas intended to be a portion ofFar Cry 7, offering gamers a chance at survival in the Alaskan wilderness, fighting off players as well as AI-controlled animals and soldiers. Because this ambitious multiplayer component seemed to have so much more to offer, it was given a dedicated team and turned into a standalone project in 2023. However, after an internal review at Ubisoft, work on the project appears to have been reset.

Teams at Ubisoft Montreal and Sherbrooke are set to revamp this game in its prototyping stage while approximately 12 devs from Ubisoft Berlin who assisted move on toBlackbirdand another group of the same size is moved to an unrelated game. For the rest, Insider Gaming estimates that 50 developers have been left without active projects and are set to be “placed on viability.” This falls in line with generalplans for Ubisoft to restructure and streamlineits development process. Although the fate of this extraction shooter title seems unclear, developers working onFar Cry 7seem confident that their game will be released around 2026.
